AUTO LANE CHANGE ISSUES CONTINUE W/ FSD V14.2.1.25 Starting with FSD v14.2, there has been a significant regression in the system's confidence when performing automatic lane changes. If a vehicle is following in the adjacent lane at a safe distance and consistent speed, the ego car will often activate... the turn signal and begin crossing the lane line before suddenly aborting the maneuver, pausing briefly, and then either proceeding with the lane change or abandoning it entirely. This behavior appeared in v14.2.1 and unfortunately persists in v14.2.1.25. While it is not a safety issue per se, it is definitely one that needs to be addressed, as it causes confusion and frustration for all surrounding drivers on the road when it occurs. I've experienced this a lot! I also experienced a potential variant where my MS froze up when trying to make a right turn. It just stopped and blocked the lane until I hit the accelerator.

Yep, excessive hesitation with right turns also seems to have started around the same time with v14.2. Thanks for bringing that up!

It’s actually very bad. Makes using it on the highway annoying. Really hope this is fixed soon.

V13 had none of this. And for those of us "minor" accounts with no influence, I don't think anyone is listening. The big influencers just go on and on saying self-driving is solved. I was MUCH more comfortable with V13.

I have had the same issue. I speculate it has to do with the car 2 lanes over as it seems like my model s is “worried” that the car will change lanes at the same time into the same lane as me. I have only experienced this issue on multi lane freeways where this could happen.

That would make sense but I also have it happen a ton on 4-lane highways (2 lanes in each direction).

Yea it's a bummer and my cameras appear to be clean. I am sure it's on the fix it list for v14.3.

Also, when you’re in a circle, it puts the blinker on too early, causing confusion for other drivers if you’re turning when the blinker goes on (first exit), or the next one (second exit)

once again the fan boys lied to us! i knew it was too good to be true! this issue first appeared in 14.1.7 or 14.1.4. it was the update after 13.9.

It was not nearly as prevalent in v14.1.x however it definitely got worse in v14.2.

I’ve been hoping 14.2.1.25 addresses this as it’s been plaguing 14.2.1. There were times that the cars behind me flashing their lights to let me know it’s ok to enter the lane and it’s kind of embarrassing

I’m seeing this too on 14.2.1.25 (2025 M3). While the general lane hesitancy feels better than 14.2.1, I still had a couple of those specific "swerve-then-abort" moments today during a 74-mile drive. It definitely confuses surrounding traffic. However, my car uploaded a massive 32.4 GB of data immediately after the drive, so I suspect the team is actively collecting high-priority telemetry on these specific lane-change rejections.

Thanks for sharing! Today during my 260 mi drive to Des Moines it did great for the first 150 miles. Then all of a sudden the hesitation started occurring with almost every auto lane change. Very frustrating!

Experienced this a handful of times on 14.2.1. It's rather perplexing. It's done it when there's no car in the adjacent lane either. As they've said, solving the last 5% is the hardest challenge, and seems like it's resulted in some regressions along the way.

Yep it’s to be expected, just raising the issue here so that it gets fixed. Overall still really impressed with v14.2, it otherwise aced my 260 mile drive to Des Moines today.

I'm almost convinced this was intentionally done to collect data on how drivers around us react to a hesitant vehicle. Maybe it will help with signal timing and merge speed in future updates

I don’t understand why this regression persists ? Because lane change scenarios are abundantly modeled. Thats why this was one capability after self parking which Tesla FSD was very good at. They are doing some mumbo-jumbo making thr decision making so poor. 13.2.9 was king of FSD reliability

My uneducated guess would be they changed something in the vision / perception part of the stack where it now doubts path predictions & approach speeds of surrounding vehicles.

I've also experienced this while manually activating the turn signal, adjacent lane is clear with plenty of room, it does the hesitation but then jerks back into the current lane and turns the turn signal off (failing to change lanes).

I feel like this may be worse with the S+X than the 3+Y, most accounts I've seen complaining of this are on one of those two platforms.

Check the comments again, lots of 3 & Y folks commenting about this even a few Cybertruck owners.

In that case, I really hope @Tesla_AI gets that dialed in soon then. V13 definitely wasn't as capable as 14 in a lot of ways but damn was it good at that. Even in rush hour LA traffic, it would force it's way over the needed freeway exits or exchanges, just like humans have to.
