I posted this in March, warning LA that Raman is a sleeper candidate. I know her so well because her City Council District is neighbors with mine. She is very unpopular and I sit in Neighborhood Council meetings where she is regularly thrashed by residents. When she ran for re-election 2 years ago against a Democrat, she was ahead on Election Night by only 4 points (but less than 50%), so we thought we were headed for a runoff. But after days of post Election Day counting, she magically got the votes she needed for an outright majority win, 50.6%. Again, she ran against a Democrat. What is repeating right now on a larger scale (she made up 10 points in 5 days?) has NOTHING to do with the claim that Spencer is a Republican, and comparisons to historical Trump or Garvey vote share are not useful. That is a backfilled explanation by pundits and strategists who aren’t from LA and have no idea what they’re saying. This is a pattern, perfected by operatives. I will admit that after her debate crash-out, unfavorable polling, and fundraising numbers came out in April and May, even I thought the threat from Raman was reduced. May Elizabeth was wrong; March Elizabeth was right. I wish I wasn’t.
