#OrthodoxUnderAttack: Abiy Ahmed's security forces appear to be intensifying the religious persecution of Orthodox Christians in the form of arrests and harassment throughout Addis Ababa & the Oromia region of #Ethiopia. This is despite the good-faith effort by the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, whom in good-faith met with the Prime Minister and called off the national protest planned for Sunday, February 12. The Ethiopian government must understand that freedom of religion is a human right. Freedom of religion is guaranteed by article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief.
