This sound bite from the Canadian Coast Guard is almost unbelievable. Thanks to Jenna Goodyear for posting this on Facebook. I’ve worked in the news industry for almost 20 years. I’ve lived in Newfoundland and Labrador for 10 years. When we report missing fishing vessels, the outcome is overwhelmingly poor. What happened very early this morning is incredible! The crew of the Elite Navigator was found safe in their life raft by the amazing people of all the search and rescue crews that were looking for them. The relief these men must feel, followed by the relief of their families, 7 familes, is probably indescribable. I am thrilled to hear this news.

2/6/24 | #NLwx | The crew on Air Canada flight 698 did all they could to try and land early this morning in St. John’s, but the winds proved too high! They tried 3 times to land and ultimately had to fly back to Toronto. They took off at 9:43 PM EST and landed back in Toronto at 4:39 AM EST. 7 hours in the plane. To those of you on the flight, my heart goes out to you as I know what that’s like. But please keep in mind that any choice made in flight deck has your safety in mind. The weather will be better tomorrow and flights should get back on track…

This is the Avenir neighborhood in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. A powerful tornado passed through here earlier this evening in association with Hurricane #Milton's outer band thunderstorms. My mom lives in this neighborhood. Between forecasts tonight on NTV News I was keeping her updated on where the tornado was as it neared her house. She was in her safe place in the house. Her house was somehow undamaged. Many were not so lucky. Many will not be so lucky tonight.

24-Hour Fire Comparisons | August 12, 2025 (Newfoundland & Labrador) All three major fires currently burning on the Island have shown growth in the past 24 hours, as noted by the Premier of NL earlier today. #nlwx Using NASA FIRMS imagery, we can see where this growth has been concentrated. On the Paddy’s Pond fire, the most significant expansion has been on the north and south sides—especially to the north, closest to Paradise and Conception Bay South. This aligns with the evacuation order issued for the Three Island Pond area earlier today. The Kingston Fire shows growth along its northern flank, with more substantial spread toward the northeast into Ochre Pit Cove compared to yesterday. My heart goes out to all those who are waiting to find out if their homes, cabins, or whatever else they hold is still standing. Today marks 5 years since #snowmageddon. This was the most intense winter storm I have experienced. Snowfall amounts through the Metro region varied but were between 78 and 100 cm. Most of which fell inside of 24 hours. The wind was also high, gusting to 150+ km/h. #NLwx
