This got a lot more love than I expected, thank you. Here’s how it looks in a PS1 emulator (DuckStation). It’s easier to see how nicely the cat blends with the background and how the subtle fog makes it look even nicer. :)

The cat now looks at the objects you can interact with. 🐱👍

- Bitmap fonts work - Added cool text effects (wavy + rainbow) - Cat is now chilling I bet there are 0 PS1 games which can do THIS! 😹

I just fixed the problem which has haunted me for MONTHS on PS1. You might notice a lot of games having gaps in the floors on PS1 (first video). However, I finally found the fix which makes this problem disappear completely! (2nd video)

Some Yume Nikki PS porting progress (to PC) It's starting to get playable, there's Mado here, but for some reason she's got huge boots now... 😑

Real animation now works! Let's gooo. (And people said to me that PS1 couldn't handle skeletal animation :P)

Was working on expressions/hands system and made a Pog button. Then NPC's animation broke and I realized that it's perfect for showing off bugs.

Lain PS1 is now somewhat playable. Here it is running on a real PS1. You can walk around the room and the vibes are cool. :)

Babe, wake up, Super Mario 64 on PS1 is now real. The port is being done by a mad genius Malucart who's been working on it for a while. A lot of the things are still WIP and a bit broken (good for creepypasta material though!), but overall it's an incredible work!

Yume Nikki PS1. Demo out NOW! It contains two dream worlds to explore. You can run it on a real PlayStation 1. This is a fan game. I put a lot of love and care into it. I hope you enjoy it.

Thinking about the character style I should use for my PS1 cat game. Imported the model from The 3rd Birthday (PSP) as a test and wow… PS1 can have had NPCs that look like THIS?

I animated Lain on PS1. (The animation is somewhat janky, but it's hard to make such a complex animation smooth on PS1 :D)

The PlayStation can produce mind-boggling effects...

Greatly improved NPC interaction polish (inspired by Majora's Mask). * NPC and cat now look at each other * NPC dude finally has a face * Fixed cat blinking * New font * Rotation and head turn happen in parallel now, not after each other.

Yume Nikki PS is now 100% playable on PC. It feels so good in 60 FPS and still retains its PS1 charm. Will be even better when I add the 100% accurate PS1 dither. The only thing that remains is adding sound and some graphical effects (Silent Hill fog, proper shadows etc.). ☺️

Time of day system? In a PS1 game?! Yes.

Just got my mind boggled by this PS1 game called Bass Rise (1999). The reflection effect is so incredible.

Cosmowarrior Rei Zero has such incredible graphics for a PS1 title... (This is upscaled in DuckStation for clarity, but looks nice in 240p too) I love the UI so much, plus the lighting emitting from your shots looks so cool.

I’m making some slides for my “how fog works in Silent Hill on PS1” video. And the best way to show how PS1 works is on PS1 itself, right? So I just made the best slide ever… 😂

I implement Silent Hill fog in my (real) PS1 game. It's exactly the same technique that Silent Hill uses (reverse engineered it). It's pretty incredible, looks great and pushes PS1 to its limits. I'll write a blog post explaining how it works later. :)

Today I added DualShock support to Yume Nikki PS. The future is now. You can now also walk while in first person now… and the game becomes very LSD Dream Emulator-like. 😳 (P.S. sorry for the loud controller sounds - hard to film and play at the same time!)

You can now drop effects in Nexus. With that, Yume Nikki PS1 demo is 100% feature complete. Working on the Itch page right now. 😊

A historic moment... I bought a CD burner and now my game launches from the CD on a real PS1! I don't have a modchip, so I'm loading it using Unirom, also it takes a while for the CD drive to spin up... so skip to 00:41 if you just want to see the gameplay.
