MUSK SLAMS GERMANY NUCLEAR CLOSURES: "I want to be super clear. In my opinion, Germany should not only not shut down the nuclear power plants, it should reopen the ones that are shut down," says Elon Musk to WELT. "This is total madness. I want to be clear. Total madness."

Bono says he went from protesting nuclear energy to being for it. Many such cases! A wave of reconsiderations has been coming in the past few years. Expect a flood as nervous celebs realize most people are already for it. It's safe to come out now.

Elon Musk Only thing more cringe than posting on LinkedIn is shutting down perfectly working nuclear plants with no reliable domestic replacement except for lignite coal! Fortunately these things are in great shape (especially this one, Brokdorf nuclear plant) and can turn back on.

Here is one of my angriest-ever podcast moments as I anecdotally recall the quality of thinking in France that led to this crisis. And, the cynicism engendered among the engineers and managers at EDF responsible for holding up the sky:

HABECK: "THERE IS NO DOUBT" GERMAN NUCLEAR COULD HAVE KEPT RUNNING FOR 15 MORE YEARS This week, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck clarified for Germans that the nuclear plants whose closure he enforced could've kept running, and that closing them was a political, not technical, decision. Although consumer power prices have declined, industrial energy remains more expensive than before the closure of nuclear, the cheapest generators of baseload power in Germany. As German industrial companies continue to place new factories outside of the country, several of these nuclear plants sit ready to return to operation. During the worst days of the energy crisis, Habeck and his officials claimed the plants couldn't be continued. International experts, plenty of them here, also incorrectly claimed the plants couldn't keep running. It is helpful to have Habeck's explicit confirmation ahead of the parliamentary committee of inquiry looking into the decision to continue nuclear closures despite the low of Russian pipeline gas, which seriously damaged German industrial competitiveness.

Opera in a nuclear plant! My wife is a professional soprano. On her first visit with me to a nuclear plant, the music-loving plant manager asked if she'd demonstrate the sound of opera in a giant cooling tower. Three days later we learned we would be expecting our first baby.
