A Yale-educated senator just dismantled Boeing's CEO in under 90 seconds using nothing but math. Senator Josh - "What is it that you get paid currently?" Dave - "That's well disclosed in our proxy documents." Senator Josh - "Well, let me help you out. It's $32.8 million this year. Sound right?" Dave - "Yes, it does." Senator Josh - "That's a 45% increase over last year. Sound right?" Dave - "Yes, it does." Senator Josh - "You've got 32,000 machinists in the Pacific Northwest. They got 1% wage increases over 8 years. You got 45% just last year. Do you think maybe these folks deserve a raise?" Dave - "They will definitely get a raise." Then came the verdict. "I've listened to your testimony. The gist seems to be that if you could just get your employees to comply, things would be better. I don't think the problem is with the employees. I think the problem is with you. It's the C-suite. It's the management. Your engineers are probably the best in the world. Your machinists are outstanding. You're the problem." "We have to put a couple of dimples on the outside of the aircraft. It would be about a 2% fuel drag." "My fuel bill is 5 billion a year. 2% fuel drag is something of the order of about 100 million." "Starlink believes passengers will pay you 1 euro, 2 euro, and it will pay for itself." "Clearly they've never met any Ryanair passengers." Michael O'Leary on holidays vs work His family forces him to take two holidays a year, and he hates every second of it. "My children like to go on holidays, my wife likes to go on holidays and I prefer to go to work." A week skiing and two weeks in the summer. "On the scale of one to ten, how much pain are they for you? When the children were under five, I would say it was probably about ten and a half, incalculable pain." Now he's adapted by becoming the "entertainment officer" so he can at least stay busy. "I like working. I'm very privileged to work for Ryanair. Bezos says one customer complaint isn't a customer service problem, it's a root cause waiting to be fixed for every customer. "My email address is famous and I keep it, it's jeff@amazon. com. I'll get one from a customer and there's a defect. Something seems a little odd about it." "I ask the team to do a case study and find real root causes, usually causes, and then real root fixes."
