Pleased to make my first visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in the shadow of the unjustifiable attacks the country recently suffered. I conveyed the EU’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its people. We greatly value Saudi Arabia’s stabilising role and efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy. It is crucial that the momentum of the US-Iran ceasefire agreement is maintained and that all parties engage in good faith to achieve a sustainable, comprehensive agreement. Iran’s leadership should seize this opportunity to address the concerns of the international community - on nuclear, on ballistic missiles, on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and on its support to proxies in particular Hezbollah. Diplomacy is the only path towards lasting peace.

We are joining forces for peace, stability, and security in the world. 2025 will be an important year for Europe–Africa relations. Europe’s offer is one of genuine partnership. The AU-EU Luanda Summit in November will open a new page in that partnership. We want fair and lasting growth, good jobs, and a clean energy future for the continent. Europe is investing over €150 billion from Global Gateway to make it happen.

Substantial exchange as always with HM عبدالله بن الحسين in New York to discuss the EU-Jordan partnership and the situation in the Middle East. On Gaza, I commended the extraordinary efforts made by Jordan to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. The EU’s priority is to improve the humanitarian situation and to secure a ceasefire, as well as the release of all hostages. We agreed that it is important to maintain the momentum from the conference solution happening tomorrow in New York at the UN to advance on a renewed political process. The Two-State solution remains the only sustainable, long-term solution for peace and security in Israel and the region.

Great to be in Stockholm with 🇸🇪 Ulf Kristersson Ulf Kristersson. Sweden has been a strong and steady supporter of Ukraine 🇺🇦 and EU unity 🇪🇺 in the face of Russian aggression. We agreed on the need to push ahead with increasing pressure on Russia through further sanctions. We also discussed European cooperation on internal security and defence, as well as the need to sharpen Europe’s competitiveness - two sides of the same coin.
