What we are seeing now is what was predicted in the Waki Commission Report, the Kriegler Commission Report, the Kofi Annan Mediation — Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation (KNDR, 2008–2013) and the TJRC Report (2008–2013). We must stop this before it gets out of hand

We are seeing too many school riots, and the fire at Jomo Kenyatta Boys High School in Bahati, Nakuru is the latest, terrifying warning that we are failing to listen to what is happening in our learning spaces. This is not just about one school, it is part of a disturbing pattern of unrest, arson and violent protests in institutions that should be nurturing our children, not endangering them. When police and firefighters are overwhelmed by a blaze inside a school compound, it means we have allowed tensions, breakdowns in discipline and unresolved grievances to reach a dangerous boiling point. As a country, we must stop treating these incidents as isolated drama and start confronting them as a systemic crisis. We need honest conversations about student welfare, mental health, school governance and the pressures our young people are facing, alongside firm but fair discipline and clear consequences for violence and destruction. I call on the Ministry of Education, Kenya (MoE), school boards, parents and student leaders to treat the wave of school riots as an urgent national concern. Secure every learner, investigate each incident thoroughly and implement concrete safeguards and dialogue mechanisms so that schools remain places of safety, learning and hope, not recurring scenes of fire, fear and chaos.

Kenya is not dealing with random criminals, I refuse to join such a chorus. We are dealing with a procurement system of violence with well known politicians as the buyers while the unemployed Kenyans are the commodity trading impunity as their currency! The goons and criminal gangs have been allowed to run a parallel economy with well known buyers and sellers; until we prosecute the buyers, the market remains open! As Civil Society Organizations, we will not fall under the pressure of such coercion and intimidation. We will call out these ills for what they are; outright defiance against our Constitution. I stand with #Daughter of Africa🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪, @TisaKenya and the entire Civil Society community.

I am deeply saddened by the reports of yet another fire ravaging stalls at Gikomba Market this morning, leaving traders counting losses as their goods go up in flames. My heart goes out to every hardworking Kenyan whose livelihood has been wiped out overnight. No family should have to repeatedly rebuild from ashes while questions about safety, accountability and lasting solutions remain unanswered. Leaders and relevant agencies must move beyond promises to concrete action. We must pursue proper market planning, real fire safety infrastructure and transparent investigations into these recurring infernos that keep targeting one of Nairobi’s most important economic hubs. Today, we stand in solidarity with Gikomba traders and commit to amplifying their cry for justice, compensation and meaningful reform so that never again finally means something.

We have received distress calls concerning a fire in Mathare’s Mlango Kubwa which has ravaged homes and small businesses, forcing many residents to flee for safety. We have been in touch with emergency teams on the ground who are working hard to contain the situation. Coming off the back of the early morning fire in Gikomba, this highlights the urgent need for a coordinated plan for fire safety, accessible emergency services, and dignified housing so that communities like Mathare are not left to face disaster alone time and again.

I joined colleagues in Nairobi for the nationwide Law Society of Kenya purple ribbon march over the recent killing of Advocates. Our role as defenders of the rule of law is historically premised on the principle that Advocates must never be victimized or persecuted for representing their clients. The persistent attacks on advocates not only deprive Advocates of their right to work, it undermines the administration of Justice. These atrocities must be investigated and the perpetrators brought to book.

We ask our LSK members to be vigilant today. We are trying to find out which court she will be presented, as she was moved from Pangani police station early this morning. We urge our courts to be mindful of Article 50 of the Constitution of the right to a fair hearing and right to representation. The Judiciary Kenya Law Society of Kenya

No Democracy Survives the Desecration of Its Sanctuaries What happened at All Saints Cathedral on Friday is an assault on civilization. For centuries, the church has stood as a sanctuary and a place of refuge, prayer and conscience. From the Kiambaa church fire of 2008 where 35 souls perished trapped inside a house of God, we know what it means when goons are let loose on sacred spaces. Kenya must never walk that road again. The facts are chilling. On June 12th, coordinated gangs, arriving on motorcycles in two calculated waves, stormed All Saints Cathedral, terrorised civil society actors attending a legitimate post-budget accountability forum, robbed participants, destroyed property and sent Kenyans fleeing for their lives inside a place of worship. CCTV footage exists. Faces are known. Motorcycle plates have been recorded. A suspect in custody has allegedly named a government official as the sponsor. The Inspector General of Police must now ensure thorough investigations are done, and that every perpetrator and financier of this outrageous act is arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. To those that engineered this act of repression, silencing citizens who are exercising their constitutional right to public participation is not leadership. The church is not a political battleground. It is sacred ground which the State has an absolute duty to protect. Church grounds must never be reduced to a venue for intimidating and attacking those who seek its refuge.

We would like to bring to the attention of DCI KENYA and the general public the abduction of three young men in Isiolo. We note with concern that these unconstitutional abductions persist amidst perpetual denials by Government officials in charge of security over their occurrences. This matter has been reported as OB29/06/07/2024. We demand an immediate investigation into this complaint and prosecution of the criminals perpetrating abduction of citizens.

As the search for Shad continues amidst a lack of assistance or corporation from the DCI KENYA and National Police Service-Kenya, another young Kenyan has fallen victim to the government's insatiable appetite for violating human rights. An innocent, unarmed, and harmless young man, John Frank Githiaka alias Franje Franje, was abducted by unidentified plain-clothe officers from his office at Beast Athletic Offices on Baringo Road in Kahawa Sukari. The high calibre weapons brandished by the abductors confirm that the string of abductions is being perpetrated by very high level, clandestine operatives within the police force. Franje is not a terrorist to warrant such heavy-duty weapons being brandished at him, even if he were under arrest. To these rogue cops and their masters, you may flout and contravene the constitution, but you cannot extinguish its resilient spirit; the law will catch up with you. We call on all members of the public to be extra vigilant at this time. Let us continue to share and communicate any information you may have to help establish the whereabouts of our comrades. We continue to do what we can and must, let us be each other's keeper.

Tomorrow, we kick off the Fisherman's Art Workshop and Civic Engagement in collaboration with Coster Ojwang, watendawili and Willis Raburu. This will be a civic space where we use art, as a mirror of our society, to deliberate on not just where our country is, but which direction we want it to head in, and how we can all collectively ensure we achieve that vision. We welcome all talented, passionate Kenyans in and around Bondo to join this space and take part in this conversation. This is the start of civic education done differently; through the universal language of humanity.

Good afternoon, friends. Yesterday evening, another innocent young Kenyan fell victim to the draconion tactics of rogue police officers. Shadrack Kiprono was violently abducted by unidentified persons believed to be intelligence officers in South B while getting into his vehicle. The abduction, which was captured on CCTV footage, shows 3 men in masks descend upon Shad and force him into a white Land Cruiser. Evidently, this was not an arrest as the police did not identify themselves or engage in any conversation prior to the arrest to inform him of his rights. These criminals pretending to exercise police authority must be stopped. We condemn the sustained unconstitutionalities and atrocities being perpetrated by the police, and demand the immediate release of Shad. The Law Society of Kenya is all hands on deck to find Shad's whereabouts and identify the criminal faction of the Police carrying out these abductions.

Maria Sarungi Tsehai has been released and is safe for now. The unfortunate ordeal she has endured paints a worrying picture of the state of our country's human rights context. We will pursue answers from all relevant authorities on why this happened. We thank everyone for the concern and support in ensuring her release.
