An ICE officer shot and killed a man during a targeted enforcement operation in Houston on Tuesday morning. According to federal officials, the shooting occurred just before 7 a.m. near Canal Street and Wayside Drive. Investigators stated that the suspect, identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, was a Mexican national in the country illegally. Officials allege Araujo attempted to evade arrest, rammed into an ICE vehicle, and tried to run over an officer before the agent opened fire. The FBI is leading the ongoing investigation.

New gas station surveillance footage has surfaced regarding this week’s deadly ICE shooting. Security video from a local gas station shows a white van believed to be driven by Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. The low-resolution footage captures what appear to be ICE agents pulling an individual from the passenger side. It remains unclear whether this occurred before or after Salgado Araujo was shot.

Officials stated an officer ran a plate on a Black sedan-type vehicle in a parking lot after police received multiple calls on it with a Black male inside. Authorities said the officer called for backup as the vehicle came back stolen out of Fort Bend County. After multiple officers arrived, police said the Black male, who officials believe was the only person inside, was given multiple commands by officials to exit the vehicle to conduct an investigation. Authorities said the Black male, who was approximately 35-years-old, did not comply with those commands. Houston police stated a team of officers then began to approach the vehicle when the driver's side door opened up, the Black male inside made a movement as to show officers he had a potential weapon. That's when shots were fired by officers on the scene.
