This is how fox cubs are made! 🦊🧡🦊 After a short copulation that only lasts 5-10 seconds, the foxes tie together if the mating was successful. The tie can last for up to an hour and neither fox can break this lock. The young vixen decided to drag her partner with her into the den for some more privacy and safety whilst being tied together intimately. Little vixen Spring had many suitors over the last few weeks but ultimately chose the most mature dog fox to father her cubs. This is a wise decision as she will be a first-time mum and he is the most experienced fox dad in the area and may be able to support her and their cubs by bringing them food and taking on babysitting duties. 🐾 This dog fox, Henry, won young Spring over with his laid-back attitude and gentle manner. He just quietly shadowed her to make sure she was safe rather than putting on a noisy and cocky mating display. I marked the Red Letter Day in my diary and know that 54 days from that date their cubs will be born. ✍️ I can’t wait to meet the next generation of the cemetery fox dynasty. How about you? 👁

What a wonderful fox dad Elf is! This was him last summer playing patiently with his daughters. He taught them well to be confident and street- smart young vixens. All of his daughters are now fox mums themselves and “responsible adults”. However, every time they bump into them when he is inspecting his large territory surrounding the cemetery, they still wiggle their brushes excitedly and squeal with joy just like they did when they were tiny cubs. I hope you will enjoy this #FlashbackFriday clip. I will continue to share more precious memories of the wonderful foxes under my care.

How beautiful is this?! 😍 A foxy kiss between mum Spring and Dad Bert. They are rearing their cubs together, taking turns with foraging for food and watching over and playing with the cubs. When the changeover happens, the parents always greatly enjoy to reconnect with each other and their 5 offspring as one happy family unit.🧡 Dad Bert is a very paws-on dad. He is not just providing food but also playing with his kids extensively. 🐾 This playtime makes them stronger and more agile and is teaching them essential life skills. But of course playing with each other also strengthens the social bonds between the family members. I can't wait to see the cubs grow into juvenile foxes and learn all about their distinctive characters.🦊 #foxes #foxfamily #foxcubs #foxkits #cemeteryfoxes

👁I know it seems obvious but water is an absolute lifeline for all wildlife, especially for lactating vixens still nursing their cubs.🦊 I got multiple water dishes out at different levels in my garden and bring 10 liters of water into the cemetery that usually get lapped up within 24 hours. Please provide always provide fresh water for wildlife but especially during these scorching hot days!🙏🐾 Fruit high in water content such as watermelons are also a much appreciated hydrating treat! #fox #foxes #wildlife #water #heatwave

Isn't he stunning? 🤩 Fox Dad Bertie is on den den watch whilst mum Spring has gone looking for food. Nothing escapes his eagle eyes and helicopter ears and finely tuned nose when he is protecting his young from possible intruders. 👁 I adore the tiny white star on his black chest. He is such a looker. What do you love about Bertie? 🦊 I am incredibly grateful that I was able to treat him for lung worm when he was very poorly and coughing nonstop. 🙏🐾 #fox #cemeteryfoxes #foxes #foxfamily #wildlife

A precious moment money can't buy! 😍 Every minute spent with Elf, 'my' wild and free fox friend is special. Every encounter is initiated by him and every interaction is different. Most of the time when we bump into each other, he chooses to just sit with me. Often when I am on fox watch (usually to treat one of his ill family members), he goes asleep right next to me whilst I tell him a foxy fairy tale. I have no idea what he sees in me and why he seeks my company?!🤔 But I know that these peaceful shared moments are cherished deeply by both of us. 🦊🧡

Poor little soul! 😱 Last night at 2am, the storm blew this sick little vixen into my garden. She is suffering from #mange and has lost almost all the fur from her brush. She has many bare patches and will be feeling very itchy, uncomfortable and thirsty. Because she has no more cosy brush to wrap around herself to keep her warm, she will be feeling cold. 😑 The worst thing about her situation is that she is pregnant, so if she does not get treated quickly, the parasitic mites that cause mange will not only spread all over her body and emaciate her, but they will also migrate onto her new-born cubs. The race is on against time to get her treated as soon as possible. I will do a night watch tonight in the hope that she will return at the same time and I get to feed her a medicated piece of chicken. 👁 Please keep your fingers and paws crossed for her!🤞 Your donations enable me to purchase more live-saving mange treatments: Thank you for your support! 🙏🐾💞

Poor little soul! 😱This is one of the worst cases of mange I have seen in a while! This little #vixen has been suffering from #mange for months. Many people must have looked the other way, instead of feeding her and getting her help. But now she has come to the right place. Tonight I shall wait for her with medicated food. You can enable me to save more precious fox lives by donating: Thank you for caring! 🙏🐾 Do you have any name suggestions for this little warrior? I will keep you posted on her progress. 🧡 Please RT. Foxy Diplomacy. 🦊 Foxes can teach us a thing or two about how to resolve conflict in a respectful and gentle way! Winter got spooked by her sister Spring popping up right behind her, so she told her off. Both vixens were opening their jaws to show their teeth but uttered no sound. Spring closed her eyes and ducked her head low, signalling to her sister that she means no harm. I love the many foxy micro-movements composing a complex exchange of body language!🧡 #foxes #fox #foxfamily #foxcommunication #foxtalk #cemeteryfoxes #foxguardians #wildlife

Meet Willow, a hard-working fox mum. Once she nursed her cubs, she loves nothing more than taking long snoozes on the garden table that is glowing with warmth from the spring sun. 🦊 She is one of the residents who live in my friend's garden. Willow peacefully coexists with another lactating vixen called Boots and a fox boy called Gordon. Boots has first dibs on food, though. You can help foxes just by letting them rest up in your garden and enjoy some moments of peace. Fresh drinking water is also much appreciated, especially during dry spell we have been having in the UK recently.

A vixen that I have never seen before has started to visit my garden. She is heavily pregnant, extremely hungry and very tame. Rather than sussing me out from a distance she came up right close to 'ask for help'. I think that somebody has been feeding her but maybe they have gone on holiday or moved away, so this vixen is taking risks she would normally avoid in order to feed herself and soon to be born cubs. It is brave of her to stroll into a territory of a vixen and her Beau who just had cubs. Foxes are very territorial, especially when they have cubs to rear. 👁️Interesting fox fact: This footage shows the vixen’s eyes glowing, which is generated by the so-called “Tapetum Lucidum” in action. The “Tapetum Lucidum” is a tissue behind the retina that reflects light back through the retina, giving animals like foxes excellent night vision. I triggered the reflector as the light on my camera was on.

Update on the little mange patient🦊🧡: The good news is that she returned and had a good feed last night. Unfortunately the time she visited, some of the resident juveniles were about, so target- feeding medicated chicken was not possible. However, this is progress and I feel it is only a matter of time until I can treat her. I am patient and persistent. Now I just need some luck! 💫 This clip teaches us a lot about fox behaviour: We can see that foxes are fair. They stand up for their territory but if the other fox submits like the little vixen did by ducking down and making cub-like sounds, then she will be left alone. 💞 The footage featuring a malnourished fox with mange right next to a healthy fox who gets fed daily in my garden, also demonstrates the relevance of supplementary feeding foxes. A fox that has their basic needs met will have a strong immune system and will cope with parasites (like the mites that can cause mange) much better than a malnourished fox. 🍗

He's behind you!! 😆Sometimes Elf is shadowing my work without me even realizing that he is there! I love that foxes often appear silently as if materializing out of thin air. It gives them that air of magic! Once I realised that Elf was there and I finished setting up my trail camera, I sat down with him for a a short while to film him. He got bored quickly and moved on to sniffing and scent-marking my wicker trolley that he firmly considers part of his territory and his property! I have never trained him to come close and would never hand-feed or touch him. He is wild, not tame. He trusts me to a certain degree but I can assure you, one sudden movement from me and he would bolt and run. And that is exactly how it should be. #fox #foxes #wildlife #foxguardians

I got the BEST news!! 😁 Ivy returned last night and had her treatment for mange. 🥳 She will feel better within days and will be protected from mange for 3 months. I will continue to monitor her closely and feed her and also deworm her. I hope that she will not just survive but thrive again! 🦊🌿 Thank you for sending all the good vibes, beautiful name suggestions for her as well as generous donations towards mange medication and food for the many foxes under my care.🙏🐾 You are the BEST! 😍 #fox #foxes #wildlife #mange #foxrescue

Meet my latest protégé at the cemetery, a little boy with a leg injury. Turns out the cemetery is a magnet for ill and injured foxes. They come here, away from humans, cars and dogs to recuperate in peace, before they venture again into the wider world. I have been able to treat him for 5 days now and luckily his leg is now weight-bearing when sitting, standing and walking. So, hopefully he will make a full recovery and will be able to run and jump again using all legs. #cemeteryfoxes #fox #foxes

Cubs' Capers!🦊😍This is the very first time this year's cemetery fox cubs were allowed out of the den to play. They really cherished their new-found freedom and played for 3 hours in the deep of the night. Mum Spring and dad Bert were both clearly excited to run free with their offspring. Dad was literally jumping for joy! 🐾 Not long until the munchkins will be allowed to play outside in the spring sunshine for brief moments, under strict parental supervision. Wishing you a foxy weekend! #cubs #foxes #kits #foxcubs #fox #foxfamily Music: "Quirky Dog" by Kevin MacLeod, creative commons license 4.0

Look at these beautiful fox cubs! 🦊😍 These are some of the cutest cubs' capers from the last few years that I am happy to have captured on film. From tiny brown bundles of joy tumbling out of a den to rusty youngsters pouncing on a trampoline - all of the foxes in this clip have been helped by me with food and medication (when needed) to make sure they grew into healthy adult foxes.🐾 I am currently supporting 6 fox mums and their offspring and am expecting to see up to 36 cubs. I can't wait to meet them and introduce them to you. 🌿 Follow us, so you won't miss any of the magic moments from the foxy nurseries.👁️ #fox #foxcubs #foxkits #foxes #foxfamily Music : 'Carpe Diem' by Kevin MacLeod, incompetech/com

Mummy Eliza is a wise fox mum.😍 She moved her cubs into a more obscured den where they will be much safer. Currently, the cubs are only allowed out for short periods of time, under strict parental supervision. It is such a joy to see them all looking well. They have my dedicated support through good and bad days. Your donations enable me to buy fox food and stock up on meds to help these tiny tinkers should they become ill or injured: Thank you for your support! 🙏😍🐾

Welcome back, Babybelle! 🤩 Mummy Babybelle had gone off the radar over the last 2 weeks. She did this most likely to teach her 4 teenage fox kids' independence. Even though I had seen this behaviour of parents temporarily moving off their territory in early autumn before, I did still worry about her: Was she Ok? Was she just on a 'foxy walkabout' or had something happened to her? Would I ever see her again?🤔 Imagine the big sigh of relief I did when I spotted her and realized she had returned in one piece. She lost some weight and was more skittish than normal, checking me out cautiously, but then settled back into her garden, enjoying dinner. 🦊😍 If a fox you have been supporting goes off the radar, don't ever give up hope! They often have their reasons to disappear and may return again...
