The Dead’s 1987 tour with Bob Dylan made its fifth stop in Oakland, CA at the Oakland Coliseum Stadium, with the Dead commanding the first two sets before bringing out Dylan for a third. Brazilian drummer Airto Moreira sat in throughout the Dead's set, with John Cipollina and Boz Scaggs joining for a few tunes during the second set, which Boz opened on lead vocal with "Walkin' Blues," the Dead's first performance of the song since 1966. Local news outlets were astonished to see the community that pulled through despite the hundred-degree weather. The Washington fire department came in to hose everyone down to keep the peace. Bob Dylan and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers were openers for both nights of this run, standing strong against the tough conditions in leather get-ups. Footage from Cleveland Live Music on YouTube
