The Dead’s 1987 tour with Bob Dylan made its fifth stop in Oakland, CA at the Oakland Coliseum Stadium, with the Dead commanding the first two sets before bringing out Dylan for a third. The final set included renditions of Dylan’s tracks that would not be on the tour's final stop setlist, including "Baby Tonight," "Highway 61," "I Want You," "Man Of Peace," "Slow Train," and "Times A Changin’,” and “Shelter From The Storm.” Watch the full performance of “Friend of the Devil,” available on the Grateful Dead YouTube Channel.

"Played live only a dozen times, in 1966 and 1967, ‘Cream Puff War’ was one of the Dead's earliest originals, written by Jerry Garcia, one of the few songs for which Jerry wrote the lyrics as well as the music. This rendition is one of the hottest, complete with a big jam that builds until it hits a huge explosive ending." - David Lemieux Listen to this sonic gem, included on ‘Live at the Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco, CA 7/3/66,’ here:

A night of music in support of those who served 🌹 In 1982, the Grateful Dead played a benefit in support of Vietnam veterans alongside Jefferson Starship, Boz Scaggs, and Country Joe McDonald. Brazilian drummer Airto Moreira sat in throughout the Dead's set, with John Cipollina and Boz Scaggs joining for a few tunes during the second set, which Boz opened on lead vocal with "Walkin' Blues," the Dead's first performance of the song since 1966. “One of the earliest live recordings by the Grateful Dead, July 3, 1966, at the Fillmore Auditorium shows a band with a bright, long, exciting future ahead…This live recording, produced by Owsley "Bear" Stanley, is some of the peppiest, most inspired live Grateful Dead put to tape." - David Lemieux While the Dead’s archive is legendary for its depth, complete high-fidelity documents of the band’s first year are rare. The July 3rd recording captures the group in the midst of a radical mutation, including the earliest known live recordings of several songs that would largely vanish from the band’s repertoire by the end of the summer. Due July 3rd as a 2CD and exclusive 3LP, limited to 6,600 with an etching on the 6th side, FILLMORE AUDITORIUM, SAN FRANCISCO, CA (7/3/66) was recorded by Owsley “Bear” Stanley, produced by Dave Lemieux, and mastered by Jeffrey Norman at Mockingbird Mastering, with speed correction and tape restoration by Plangent Processes.
