A family in Australia has remained defiant in selling... their nearly 5-acre property in the last few years as developers have been forced to build around them. Most recently, they declined a whopping $50 million offer for their home. Slap bang in the middle of a new-build development in The Ponds area near the city of Quakers Hill, the Zammits have indicated they cannot put a price on their beloved home. It’s a stark contrast to the adjacent rows of newly constructed houses that surround their longtime property. Their neighbors have praised their resilience as they enjoy the cul-de-sacs that this in-the-middle property creates by staying put, rather than having a typical through street. “The fact that most people sold out years and years ago, these guys have held on. All credit to them,” Taylor Bredin, an agent with Ray White Quakers Hill, told the outlet. Bredin estimated that the land could accommodate up to 50 houses, with each subdivided 3,200-square-foot block potentially fetching a million dollars each. Diane Zammit, 51, previously spoke to the outlet and reminisced about the area’s past, describing it as “farmland dotted with little red brick homes and cottages.”“Every home was unique and there was so much space — but not any more. It’s just not the same,” she said. Most of the neighboring blocks of land sold back in 2012 — which would have valued the Zammits’ property at around $4.75 million 10 years ago. Their Windsor Castle-style home features a 650-foot driveway in the middle of their expansive lawn. An overlooked dimension in Syria’s analysis is personal and... emotional for the rebels: the longing for home and family reunification. In this multilayered event, the uprising of the displaced is clear. Since the offensive began, Syrian timelines are filled with videos of families reuniting, tears, collapses, and overwhelming emotions. Many of the fighters I have seen in videos are from displaced communities, separated from their homes and families for over a decade and fighting to go back to their towns. In this video, a rebel leader from Hama, prepping fighters from Homs to fight for their city: “Like I was happy to meet my family today (voice shaking), each of you will see your mother.” This motivation is a real one: “everyone of you will see his mother...” This is by no means the full picture or the only motivation. It's only a single aspect of it, but it’s a crucial one that deserves to be highlighted on its own to build the complex big picture of what's happening. Nobody will cry when you’re gone. Those who care... will also be long gone. We’ve seen the statistics. Foreign names are now the most common baby names in many of Europe’s largest cities. Most children in schools are foreigners. Foreigners demand to implement their own religious laws in sovereign nations. Foreigners win elections without speaking the local language. What is happening is a total transformation of these cities and countries. In a generation, they will probably still have the same name on the map, but they will be completely different places, with a new majority making their own laws, culture, norms, values, and language. Europe has completely failed at assimilation. What it has instead are protected parallel societies that will gradually subsume the native populations. And nobody will care. It will be taken for granted. You’ll still be called a radical for saying something went wrong. Just like nobody cares that the Ottomans took Constantinople. Or that the Arabs took the Levant and North Africa. They’re all Turks now. They’re all Arabs now. And you’re still some weird radical for supporting the losers or denying the identities that replaced the old ones. Conquest doesn’t always need swords.show more
