The truth is complicated, difficult and not always flattering: but the truth is essential. Without the truth we can never improve ourselves or our societies. From a July 2026 event with Tom Parker, host of The Next Five, the Financial Times’ podcast on business. Watch the whole conversation:

We don't know if the repercussions of AI will be good or bad, but we do know disruption will happen, and we know that it will happen much faster than in previous generations. The important thing isn't to panic or be frightened, but to understand the magnitude of the change we are facing.

When I say that Bitcoin is a currency of distrust, I'm just repeating what Bitcoin fans themselves say. There may be good reasons not to trust the banks and governments that create dollars, yens, and other currencies – but that doesn’t change the fact that the preference for Bitcoin is based on distrust of human institutions. Why is this an alarming development? Because the whole purpose of money is to create trust between strangers. Financial devices like currencies, bonds and shares – 90% of which are just data in computers – build trust between millions of strangers, who can then pool their knowledge and resources together, and cooperate. Humans control the world because we learned to do this. If we now lose trust in human institutions, this will limit the amount of money and handicap economic activity and cooperation. I hope that humanity finds a way to build trustworthy human institutions, instead of adopting technologies of distrust. #bitcoin #trust #distrust #crypto #currency #humanity #institutions #money #finance

Every peace treaty in history was based on compromise, not absolute justice. Justice is essential, but the pursuit of absolute justice can lead you to perpetuate conflict indefinitely, never reaching peace. Full Piers Morgan interview for Piers Morgan Uncensored:

My new book 'NEXUS' will be published this September. It considers how information networks have made and unmade our world – from the Stone Age, through the canonization of the Bible, Stalinism, Nazism, to the current resurgence of populism and the urgent choices we face as non-human intelligence threatens our existence. As the famous maxim goes: change is the only constant. But change in itself is neither good nor bad. The outcomes of today's social and technological upheavals cannot be known to us; what we do know is that change will happen, and that we must be flexible to deal with the change itself.

Unlike many religions and secular ideologies, liberalism doesn’t claim to lead to perfection. What it does do, is offer humanity a self-correcting system that allows us to correct our mistakes. From the New York Times Opinion podcast with Ezra Klein. Watch the whole episode:

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine breaks the biggest taboo of the international order. Since 1945, no internationally recognized state was wiped off the map by external conquest. Russia is trying to do just that to Ukraine. Putin is following the imperial principle that any territory conquered by the Russian army is annexed by the Russian state. If Russia wins, no state and no border could feel secure, and the world will enter a new era of imperialist wars of conquest. The Global Peace Summit that will convene on June 15 in Switzerland is a crucial chance to restore peace and order. I urge world leaders to attend the summit, and together bring peace to Ukraine and to the world. Without peace in Ukraine, humanity cannot defend itself against climate change, out-of-control AIs, or any of the other existential threats that endanger our species. #Peace #Ukraine #GlobalPeaceSummit

AI is the first tool in history that can: 1) create new things by itself, 2) make decisions by itself. It cannot be compared to any previous technological revolutions. Inventions like the printing press and even the atom bomb ultimately empowered humans – because humans always decided how to use them. AI, on the other hand, is an autonomous agent that can create and decide without us. How can we go on developing AI without being sure that it will not escape our control? Without knowing that its creations will not harm humanity? Watch the full MSNBC interview from last month on #ai #humanity #technology #artificialintelligence #tech #future

If we get rid of the current liberal world order without an alternative, we will just get disorder. Are we ready to go back to a world where the strong countries do what they want, and the weak must suffer? From the New York Times Opinion podcast with Ezra Klein. Watch the whole episode:

Eight weeks ago, Israel was on the verge of a historic peace treaty with Saudi Arabia. This significant development was supposed to normalize relations between Israel and much of the Arab world, and to restart the peace process with the Palestinians. The treaty was a major threat to Hamas, and the trigger for the attack they launched on October 7. Hamas' aim was not just to kill Israeli civilians, but to prevent the peace process. Israeli victory in the war must mean a return to the peace process. Watch the rest of Ari Melber's interview with Yuval Noah Harari on the Israel-Hamas war, for MSNBC: Filmed on November 14th, 2023.
