early cardcaptor sakura had an unprecedented level of quality for TV anime standards. in the beginning they started out doing around 8,000 frames of animation per episode. director sunao katabuchi pushed this even further with up to 12,000 animation frames for episode 3

what bothers me about this idea that malice@doll has "bad cg" is it fails to acknowledge the purpose of it. just like with toy story, malice@doll was created with the limitations of 3d animation in mind and built its story around those limitations

the concept of a character in a liminal space standing in front of a film of their backstory being projected is possibly the coolest way i have seen this sort of exposition done

this is one of my favorite sequences in all of cardcaptor sakura. such an encapsulation of what makes this series so special - these characters just getting to be themselves and having fun together brings out the best in them. incredibly well-directed and storyboarded too

i feel like tomoyo understands that the other characters see her as weird, so the least suspicious thing she could think to do here is being as suspicious as she can be lol

in episode 53 of cardcaptor sakura, there is a scene of sakura transforming a bunch of her old clow cards into sakura cards. however, among the cards she transforms, i dont believe we ever actually see the libra or wave cards being used in the show

such a shame this opening only lasts for 10 episodes because its so good and i feel like it would have been equally iconic as the other two if the viewer got to spend more time with it

i love how sakura cant take a hint when somebody likes her. she already friend zoned tomoyo unknowingly twice and despite li blushing around sakura for the entire season, she thinks he likes yukito because he is the only other person she has seen him being flustered around

gf captor kurara was an obscure cardcaptor sakura parody game created by CnC Darkside in the early 2000s. it is a 2D exploration game with a zombie apocalypse theme and euro dance soundtrack

cardcaptor sakura: itsumo sakura-chan to issho is an infamously broken game known among japanese children for how easy it is to softlock yourself. in fact it is so buggy that the only way i managed to complete it was by finding this glitch that warped me to the end credits

mamoru kanbe is best known for going on to direct beloved psychological thriller anime like elfen lied and the promised neverland. but before that, he was a very prominent episode director on cardcaptor sakura, and i would say this scene is where he is at his most unfiltered yet
