At Thang, the last border village, a tourist woman named Suman Bhat was being briefed by a local girl while showing the last village, Faranu, in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan. During the briefing, certain words were concerning. The girl referred to the visible agricultural land and the village of Farano simply as 'Pakistan's agriculture' and 'a Pakistani village.' I respectfully object to this description. The President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari visited Pakistan occupat Gilgit-Baltistan and his whole speech was about what should happen: there should be better schools, good hospitals, and more electricity. But he never said, "We have already given you this." It was like a joke. People in GB have to protest just to get a simple wall for a school. This proves the government has done almost nothing. He talked about the region's mountains, but everyone knows the resources are mainly taken by outsiders, like China, and not used for the local people. Instead of fixing things at home, he criticized India about its Muslims and Kashmir. This is strange because the people in Indian-held regions are often better off, and all of GB's money is barely equal to what is spent on one small region across the border. The President needs to stop worrying about India and start delivering for Gilgit-Baltistan. All talk, no action. In reality, around 80% of the people in Gilgit-Baltistan quietly support India, but fear speaking out due to oppression. The locals are well aware that *Pakistan and China are exploiting the region’s rich natural resources*—especially from the untouched mountains—without giving anything back in terms of development, electricity, or infrastructure. The frustration among the people is growing, but they are unable to openly protest due to *military suppression and a deeply corrupt government*. Unlike the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which has taken up arms in their fight for independence, *the balti people of Gilgit-Baltistan are peaceful and kind-hearted*. They occasionally raise their voices through non-violent protests. Sadly, even these innocent acts are met with *arrests, punishments, and restrictions*, simply because they are demanding basic rights and dignity.
