Over the weekend I got to play co-driver to a woman I’ve admired for years and years. It’s giving me goosebumps just writing this. Ellen Lohr is not only the first and still the only woman to win a DTM race, she’s also a formidable Dakar competitor. Basically, everything I love about motorsport rolled into one person. After an hour of being a fairly mediocre co-driver (proper road book and everything), I can confirm she’s every bit as brilliant as I’d hoped. She’s now firmly at the top of my hero list. As a girl with a slightly unhealthy obsession with Mercedes 190Es and Dakar trucks, you can probably imagine how much that hour meant to me. She even drove a Pajero during her last race! I asked her which car she was most impressed by, expecting her to say the Evo II, but no, the next gen C Class was her choice. And somehow, arriving at our destination to find a field full of my favourite Mercedes of all time was only the second-best part of the day. Video 1: setting off from the start line. Image 2: Ellen made history by becoming the first woman to win a DTM race, driving a Mercedes 190E Evo II. She beat former F1 world champion Keke Rosberg to take that victory. Video 3: racing to the finish. Video 4: what we arrived to. She signed my road book and I lost it after carrying it in my jacket all day. Gutted.

You get the keys to a V12 TDI Q7, you’re not NOT going to find out what it’s like to tow. And since you could’ve bought both of these new in 2010, it only felt right to put the R8 on the back. Verdict: you could probably pull a plane with this thing. Incredibly unnecessary, I already miss it.

The talk of the town, the all new Bentley Torcal. My favourite feature, the fact that Bentley has not forgotten what makes it great. Buttons. Plus, any kind of wood you can imagine and even… soft Marino wool (second video). As far as interiors go. It’s the new car boss.

Imagine if you will, a cavernous secret space dedicated to the car. To get to it, you have to fly through the air, travel for miles along busy, snowy highways, and persuade the gatekeeper to let you in. … a place where the sausages have part numbers. The journey will be perilous… the flight was delayed by 4 hours, the autobahn was clogged with crashed cars, and the airport has since closed, leaving me stranded in this unfamiliar land (until Monday). Back to the story. Inside these secret halls, you’ll find Volkswagen. Not just Beetles, but also Bugs. Lots of them. Not just any Bugattis; Lamborghinis with W16 hearts, cars that were driven to the Arctic Circle for testing. Cars that nearly were. Cars that never were. And cars that existed simply because nobody said no. Until Piech. Family saloons with W16s?! Plus more Autostadt pop-in and other intriguing VW bits thread 👇

My Pajero Evolution is finally complete 🥹 Why this livery? Because this car tells a story. Not silver. Not Passion Red. Not a familiar Ralliart design. This is about Dakar, the world's toughest race, and it doesn't get tougher than 1985. 6,390 miles. The most hostile terrain on Earth. The Ténéré Desert crossed twice. 552 teams started. Only 101 finished. The Pajero prototypes finished 1st and 2nd overall. That single result sparked three decades of dominance and 12 Dakar victories for Mitsubishi. This car proved everything. It validated the Pajero concept, forged its reputation for durability and performance, and changed the balance of power. It broke European and American dominance and announced the rise of Japanese off-road engineering. Getting this car here felt like a Dakar of its own. At times exhausting. Often unbelievable. I translated an entire workshop manual just to make it happen. This isn't just a livery. It's history.

Sometimes you’ve just got to put your foot to the floor and say goodbye to your tyres.
