In the beginning, God… // Psalm 37:23-24

Videos

I’ve just rewatched this video for a second time now 18 weeks later… This is unbelievably sad. In no way, shape, or form did this Orthodox gentleman explain the gospel of Jesus Christ. “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me HAS eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” (John 5:24) Jesus cleanses us of all our sins and brings us from death into eternal life through his death and resurrection, not because we deserve it, but because of the great love with which he loved us. For some, this is hard to understand. “Jesus answered him, ‘What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.’ Peter said to him, ‘You shall never wash my feet.’ Jesus answered him, ‘If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.’” (John 13:7-8) Accept the gift of grace that God has given you in Christ Jesus through his death and resurrection, and you will be cleansed. You can have assurance. He’s offering it to you. ACCEPT IT! BELIEVE! The Christian life is not a selfish pursuit, constantly trying to save yourself or maintain your salvation. The Christian life is a life of assurance, constantly pursuing the salvation of the world. “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.” (John 13:14-15) Jesus lived a perfect life, not to save himself, but to serve and save those who would believe in him. We are now called to follow him in this way of living: a life of sacrificial love, NOT for our own sake, but for the sake of those who are weary and heavy laden. The gospel gives us the CONFIDENCE to do this! I know I am saved. I want you to know that you too can be saved if you believe.

Wesley Huff explains to Joe Rogan why figures like Wycliffe, Tyndale, and Luther went to such great lengths to preserve the truth of Scripture and call for reform within the Catholic Church. The Greek "Metanoia" literally means a change of mind or heart, a transformation of one's inner being. It conveys repentance as an internal, spiritual turning away from sin and turning toward God in faith. The Latin word "Poenitentia" was rendered as "penance" in the sense of outward acts of contrition, confession, and works prescribed by the Church. This translation shifted the focus from an internal change of heart to external rituals and actions. For over 1,000 years, the Roman Catholic Church built false doctrines on a mistranslation. As Greek faded, the Church relied on the Latin Vulgate, unknowingly drifting from the truth. Withholding access to the original Scriptures and exploiting illiteracy, the Church created a system with little accountability. This prideful gatekeeping allowed errors to persist unchecked, despite Scripture's call for leader accountability. Only when Scripture became widely accessible during the Reformation were these doctrines refuted.

Do you ever just sit in silence, not knowing what to think, or feel, or even pray? That numb, hollow feeling like in Psalm 88 where you feel buried in a pit, forgotten, surrounded by darkness. And still… you wait. You wait on the Lord. Not because you feel strong, but because He is. Not because you have the right words, but because His Spirit intercedes when you have none. Even in the silence, even in the pit, His promises remain. He is near to the brokenhearted. He knows. He sees. And He does not abandon. Jesus said the Father doesn’t hear us for our many words… maybe it’s in the humbling silence that He hears your groaning heart most clearly. And somehow that’s worship, as we sit, and wait, in silence.

What the world calls “Israel” became an enemy of God the moment they rejected Jesus Christ. 📖 Matthew 3:9 “And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.”

Gavin makes the point that “some things can be an either-or.” Years ago, I remember going on a first date with a girl who, based on our conversations beforehand, claimed to be a Christian. But after we met and talked more, I came to find out she was Roman Catholic. At the time, I didn’t know much about Roman Catholicism beyond surface-level knowledge. Towards the end of our date, I remember her saying, “I find myself gravitating more toward lighting the candle for Mary and praying to Mary than I do to Jesus. I feel closer to Mary than I do to Jesus.” That completely shocked me. Looking back, I’m not surprised we never had a second date, because my immediate reaction was a wide-eyed, “What?!” In that moment, I remember thinking clearly: She can’t possibly be a Christian if she feels closer to Mary than to the one died for her.

The RCC claims that Mary has the authority and power to distribute Grace, and that we must run to her if we wish to find Jesus. Jeff Durbin asks a simple yet unanswerable question: “Says who?” 📖 Romans 8:14 "For all who are led by the SPIRIT of God are sons of God."
