As cleanup gets underway, please remember to take your time and pace yourself while shoveling. #ONStorm #ONwx WOAH! 😮 It looks like we very likely had a tornado touch down in the Belmont area not too long ago, as the tornado warned storm moved through the area. Dr. Sills from the Northern Tornadoes Project agrees that this was probably more than just a gustnado, like what we were seeing yesterday, but it will still need to be confirmed. "How did the Quebec wildfires start all at once?!" is a question we've been receiving quite a bit. We were curious too so we decided to review the data. Using GOES-16 satellite data for fire hotspots and by overlay lightning data, the answer becomes pretty clear. Of course, not all fires are caused by lightning. In rare cases, they can be caused by human negligence such as a bonfire that has gotten out of control, improperly disposed ashes, lit cigarette butts and even arson. This fog is also mixed in with pollution that has nowhere to go, leading to reduced air quality as well. - Brennen
