UPDATE IN BERKELEY COUNTY This is unacceptable. Earlier today I was at the Howe Hall polling location doing an interview about a separate problem voters had already faced there. While I was standing there, these young ladies walked in, proud and excited to cast their first vote. Their names weren't on the rolls, and they were turned away. They weren't offered a provisional ballot or any other option, and they had to leave without voting. Two problems at one polling location in one day is a pattern, and it needs answers. No eligible voter should be sent home on Election Day, especially young people casting their very first ballot. When we tell young people their voice matters and then shut the door on them at the polls, we break their trust. I'm proud of these young ladies for showing up, and I'm not letting this go. We're pushing for answers and working to make it right.

FINAL UPDATE from Berkeley County These two young ladies are my heroes. They waited 3 hours and 40 minutes and were turned away. They left. I asked them to come back. They came back. And they finally got to VOTE. That's what it takes sometimes, and they didn't quit. So proud of them.

Voting problems in Berkeley County: I just stopped by the Howe Hall precinct. The voting machines are down, and voters are being told to cast provisional ballots. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I'm on top of it. I spoke with the poll workers inside, and they're confident they're working to fix the machines. I'm also in touch with our legal team at the South Carolina Democratic Party and with the Executive Director of SC House Democrats. Whatever happens today, don't leave your polling place without voting, even if that means casting a provisional ballot. If you have any trouble voting, call the South Carolina Democratic Party voter protection hotline: 855-785-0222.

Absolute INSANITY! They love to lecture about the "core function of government" when the vote to DEFUND the College of Charleston and damn near close down Clemson University — but not when they vote to use taxpayers hard earned money to fund the Confederate flag relic museum. INSANE!

“I am not nervous.” My father wrote these words after the KKK threatened blow up his home and burnt a cross in his front yard during the Civil Rights movement. As our country goes down a dark path, I find strength in those words. There’s nothing they can take from us that they haven’t taken before. We shall overcome.
