When he protested, the city began a campaign of harassment and fines. Instead of accepting his fate, Heemeyer outfitted his massive Komatsu bulldozer with armored plates and a layer of concrete. Like a Phoenix from the ashes of his ruined livelyhood, he then drove through the town in a rampage, targeting everyone who had screwed him over. Marvin's last written message: "I was always willing to be reasonable until I had to be unreasonable. Sometimes, reasonable men must do unreasonable things."
