As I share in this Forbes interview, I’ve found both inspiration and success investing in public companies as well. Microsoft, NVIDIA, and AMD are just three enduring examples of innovation, leadership, and execution at scale. Since first investing in Microsoft in 1996 following its major internet announcements, that position has grown more than 75x (and I still hold the stock). Since I began consistently pounding the table on NVIDIA in 2019, including on CNBC and in other public forums, the stock has appreciated more than 50x. These experiences reinforce one of my core beliefs: exceptional, venture-like returns come from the patience and conviction to hold great companies, public or private, for the very long term.

I’ve been sharing clips from my in-depth and wide-ranging Forbes interview on a weekly basis, and I’m excited to highlight this week’s segment on breaking down silos in healthcare AI. To build successful companies and make a profound difference for patients, we need teams where technologists work directly with the very best physicians, not in separate worlds, but side by side. The real breakthroughs in medicine will come from that kind of collaboration. Too often, the traditional healthcare world operates in separate swim lanes, where doctors, academics, scientists, and technologists rarely interact. I’ve seen firsthand what can happen when we push back against that trend. The results are extraordinary when we foster genuine interdisciplinary teamwork. Across our healthcare portfolio including ArteraAI, Atropos Health, Cleerly, Iterative Health, Lyra, OpenEvidence, SandboxAQ, Soley Therapeutics, and several in stealth, we’ve seen the power of bringing engineers, clinicians, scientists, and researchers together to reimagine how care is delivered, measured, and improved.
