Question: NY’s mayor is not the only U.S. politician who has criticized the conduct of the war in Gaza. Are you concerned Israel is losing US support? Danny Danon 🇮🇱 דני דנון: “Let me surprise you. It is legitimate to criticize Israel…So we are open for criticism and we don't have to agree all the time with our allies. But you should use the same standards that you use in any other cases.“

Question: I've heard from European leaders that, with Trump, they've learned the power of No. Do you see that reaping benefits? EU MP Brando Benifei: “Trump is often testing us. He wants to see how much the EU is united in saying we demand respect….but we need to be firmer.”

Question: Is there any precedent even close for a U.S. President making this much money personally while in office? Fmr WH ethics lawyer Richard W. Painter: “None ever. We've never seen this much money made by U.S. President. We've never seen substantial conflicts of interest for any U.S. President since the Civil War. Financial conflicts of interest. Every other president has voluntarily divested themselves of conflicts of interest with the presidency, except for Donald Trump .”

Question: He's the US President with an enormous political following. People bought Trump Coin because of him, right? Is that not taking advantage of the office? Stephen Moore “Look, this was Something that people wanted to believe in these coins. I think the president, in good faith, really believed this would be a good investment. And it turned out not to be one.” Full back and forth here:

Question: Will there be an oil supply shock if the war extends too long? International Energy Agency Exec Dir Fatih Birol: “The US Brazil, Kazakhstan were able to increase production…playing a cushion role for the higher oil prices. But this cannot last very long because global crude stocks are going down.”

“Even the apartheid regime in South Africa did not dare to say that if a black man kills a white man, he will be executed. But if a white man kills a black man, he will not be. What Israel did…it is exactly that saying that a Palestinian could be sentenced to death penalty, but an Israeli no for the same crime.” -Mustafa Barghouti @Mustafa_Barghouti on Israel’s new death penalty law.

Gulp. Me: How much would a $100 pair of sneakers made in China or Vietnam cost if made in the U.S.? Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America’s Matt Priest: “$300 or $400 easily. In fact, we've even just looked at the tariffs coming into place tonight at midnight, a $150 pair of running shoes will be $230.”

The Trump administration has now refused three times to criticize Russia for supplying intelligence to Iran on the location and movements of U.S. forces in the Mideast. Trump said last night “I’d guess they’d say we do it against them.” Rep. Eric Swalwell calls it “a stunning ten-year record of failing to condemn Russia.”

I pressed senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan on whether Hamas accepts any responsibility for the loss of civilian life in Gaza, which residents have told CNN they believe it does. He wouldn’t answer and instead took me on a history lesson of events he didn’t know I witnessed myself.

Jim: Do you believe Democrats should force Trump to testify if you were to retake control of congress this fall? Rep. Dan Goldman: “I can guarantee you, Jim, that we are going to use that exact precedent that Chmn Comer set in completely unreasonably turning the screws on a former president to force him to testify on videotape about things that may be completely unrelated to the investigation, rather than to negotiate in good faith as he's required to do. So if that's the precedent the Republicans are going to set, then we are going to follow that. And if that means that it's the president's kids, if that means it's any cabinet official, if that means it's any qatari prince, and including Donald Trump, you can be sure that we are going to use that same standard.”

Here’s why Yale Law Professor Harold Hongju Koh and others believe the birthright decision was effectively 5-4 on the constitutional question: “Justice Kavanaugh said, well, the statute is clear. So I will vote for the result that the executive order is illegal. But then on the constitutional issue he made what I think is plainly an incorrect statement, which is that congress could change this rule. But five justices said the executive order is unconstitutional.”

Amid CNN reporting that Vladimir Putin has increased security fearing for his safety, I asked Ukrainian MP Kira Rudik if Ukrainian forces threatened his life. Her answer: “Of course. And I think he should be. When you are starting the war, committing all kinds of the war crimes, you should be expecting that at some point this war will come back at you, and the amount of pain and suffering, the amount of killings and stolen children that Putin and his surrounding and Russia have committed in Ukraine gives us all, all the rights to fight back. And this is what we are doing, and we will continue doing that until Russia stops.”

Following the ICE shooting of a man in Texas, I asked Rep. Sylvia Garcia if people should believe DHS vow to investigate: “No. You know, that's like the fox guarding the henhouse…and when you look at the Renee Goode case, it's been over six months. We've not had a report. There's been no accountability…This is Texas. We don't put up with horseshit.”

On the eve of NATO summit, Polish FM Radosław Sikorski 🇵🇱🇪🇺 tells me US troop reductions are “clearly coming” for Europe: “Reductions are clearly coming, and the U.S. Is requiring us in Europe to have more conventional capabilities and for the U.S. to be more of a cavalry over the hill.”

In a rare interview from inside Iran and behind its internet blackout, Iranian photojournalist Yalda Moaiery tells me U.S. and Israeli attacks have collapsed homes and killed civilians - and describes their calls for the Iranian people to take down the regime “completely nonsense.” Yes, she says, many people still support the war.

Question: Sweden’s defense chief said a Russian attack could happen any time. Do you share that concern? Swedish Dep PM Ebba Busch: “Make no mistake, Russia will not stop at Ukraine, and the next one that would be on Russia's list is a NATO ally, and that would for sure really test the strength of the alliance.”

I asked Richardquest if he sees a pattern in Trump’s seemingly market-timed statements on the Iran war: “Jim, from where I come from, in northern England, we have a saying, let's call a spade a bloody shovel. And and you just got to call it as it as it appears. And here there is no doubt that when the heat gets really hard in the market, something happens. The president says something, he acts. There is a movement that takes the heat out and the market rallies back up again, but nothing fundamentally alters underneath it. And that's the important thing to bear in mind. And in fact, arguably the underlying movement is deteriorating and worsening. All that's happening is the market is being is being teased, if you will. It's being sugarcoated, manipulated with a small M it's being told things it wants to hear. And as a result, it goes back up again. You can't necessarily say that. And I wouldn't say that's the president's motive because I don't know. But I can say that the relationship, as you say, between these statements, market movements, reality of what's happening, true change in the economic circumstances, which as the oecd points out, is deteriorating, that there is a connection.”
