I've talked about Liam Ruck's release a lot. It is the best part of his game. I would put his release top 10 in this class. Here is part of the reason why. Look at how much turn he gets in his hips. He takes a lot of ice with him. Stick does half the work, brute force the other.

December 27, 2000. One of my favorite days in hockey history. Mario Lemieux steps back on the ice. He registered a point less than a minute into the game and capped it off with a goal I will never forget. You knew right away, the rest of the league was in deep shit.

Here's another, non one-timer version of his release. Watch how fast this puck comes off of Liam's stick. It's disgusting. He has such a natural rise with the puck, and the velocity is just something else. This is what he does, wash, rinse, repeat. Hunt, hunt, score.

This game also features the greatest call of Mike Lange’s career. He put everyone on notice. He knew Lemieux was about to make history and he warns you not to turn the game off. Just pristine work from him and Steiggy here. Two absolute GOATs in their prime with unreal chemistry.

Jake Guentzel's game is about finding space. One way he *consistently* does that is by making contact with opposing defensemen to give them the illusion he is right on top of them. Then, he drifts away to open space. He goes from contact to wide open. Touch and go. Brilliant.

This will forever be my favorite Lange call. Because he knew, he always knew. No one had a better pulse on a game, or Lemieux specifically. He warns the whole television audience to stay tuned. Lemieux ends with 8 points. “I’ll tell you what, be careful.” Lange just knew.

A lot of young people might not know about Kevin Stevens, so let me educate you real quick: he's the greatest power forward in team history, my favorite player not named Lemieux, and was the meanest dude on the ice most nights. Skill and toughness. 555 points in a Pens sweater.

Sergei Murashov has won 12 games in a row for Wheeling. Has not lost since 11/1. In that time he's boasting a 94.1 save percentage and a 1.66 goals-against average. I've put together a short tape of some of his work. A longer one is coming on YouTube, consider this a teaser.
