Three of the four featured children had direct ties to Hamas. That’s not coincidence. It’s either editorial negligence, or deliberate obfuscation.

Despite the BBC admitting its massive failing in letting a Hamas minister’s son narrate a documentary, the corporation’s head of news has told staff that being in the Hamas government of Gaza is “different” from being in it’s military wing, and the distinction is somehow “important” in this context. It’s a bit like suggesting it would have been OK to be in the political wing of the Nazi party, rather than the military wing. In fact, ALL of Hamas is proscribed as a terrorist group in the UK. It is an extremist Islamic terrorist group and political entity which is an off-shoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. How peculiar to try to suggest otherwise.

Two almost opposite views, just a few months apart. Piers told me my reasoning on Iran was wrong because Russia, China and North Korea would not agree that a nuclear armed Iran would be a danger to the world. But not long ago, he was saying that “the rest of the world”, apart from China, Russia and North Korea, does think a nuclear armed Iran would be a danger. So first he argued that those countries do not matter. Then he argued that they do matter. All to decide whether a fanatical theocratic regime, dedicated to annihilating Israel and other forces for good, should be allowed nuclear weapons.

My debate last night at the Oxford Union went ahead despite shabby policing and scummy protestors trying to shut it down. We debated whether or not the West should be suspicious of Islam. I am a great believer in the power of debate and discussion, especially on important topics like this one. I am against violent mobs trying to shut down debate and stop other people from speaking at or attending debates to hear varied opinions and views. This should be a default position for free Westerners.

On 28th November 2024 Mosab Hassan Yousef spoke at the Oxford Union in defence of the state of Israel, alongside Jonathan Sacerdoti, Yoseph Haddad and Natasha Hausdorff. He was heckled and abused throughout. The President of the Oxford Union, who both chaired the event and spoke against Israel, tried to evict Mosab midway through his speech, only backing down after protest from his fellow speakers. Despite promising to publish all the speeches, the Oxford Union has so far suppressed this speech, hiding it from the public. The large amount of media coverage of this shambolic and offensive event means there is an enormous public interest in the speech being made published. So here it is. The audio quality is not perfect, and the subtitles aim to represent as accurately as possible the words spoken. Now you can judge the speech for yourself.

The chant “Khaybar, Khaybar, O Jews, the army of Muhammad will return” invokes the 628 CE Muslim victory over the Jewish community of Khaybar as a threat against Jews today. It is widely regarded as antisemitic because it explicitly addresses “Jews” (ya Yahud) rather than 'Israelis' or 'Zionists', framing them as the target of renewed violence or subjugation by Islam. It is hard to think of a situation where this historical reference would be chosen without for chanting in public today except as an intimidation slogan, implying that the fate of Khaybar should be repeated against Jews in the present. It is therefore baffling how two women filmed chanting the slogan were unanimously cleared by a jury of using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour intending to stir up racial hatred, at Southwark Crown Court.
