Ethan and Ian apparently agreed that Ian would make a statement on his livestream on July 2nd that he disavows negative online behaviors towards others, and include his own recent actions in the disavowal/apology. the clip here is from iDubbbz's July 2nd stream, where he very clearly does this—this clip isn't even the full segment (the full statement is just more of the same for a full four minutes). I think Ethan Klein disagreeing with whether or not this condition has been fulfilled as it pertains to their lawsuit being dismissed exclusively revolves around Ian not using the word “snark”. seriously.

in April, Ethan Klein made a massive song and dance out of suing Noah Samsen at the last minute, claiming that he was one of the “main peddlers” of defamation against him, and how he was “following through on a promise” to sue Noah from a year prior. last week, after almost no proceedings, he voluntarily filed to dismiss the lawsuit with prejudice. today, Ethan returned from break with a four hour long H3 Podcast episode, where he didn't mention Noah once. my guess is that Ethan was hoping Noah would jump at any opportunity to settle to avoid trial (similar to Kaceytron)—but he quickly realized he wasn't going to be able to strongarm Noah into controlling his speech, and quietly filed to dismiss the lawsuit. essentially, I think this lawsuit was just a bluff, and Noah called it. I never want to seem like I think I have any right to “demand” statements or accountability from anybody, but I don't think you should get to try to pull stunts like this and then silently tiptoe away after you get your shit reamed and pretend it never happened.

on his podcast today, Ethan Klein claims re-broadcasting someone else's defamatory statements is not protected speech, adding, “that's how the law works” the reason Ethan says this is because he learned it from his time as a defendant in his own defamation case against Ryan Kavanaugh, when the court determined that he repeatedly broadcast previously retracted statements about Kavanaugh in an obvious attempt to get the viewer to accept them as truthful. these situations aren't really comparable because iDubbbz wasn't rebroadcasting them as truth (he was just making an obviously correct point about Ethan's selectivity with who he targets), but this is still yet another instance in Ethan Klein's long history of going after others for doing things that he has lamented being held responsible for in the past.
