This was one of those moments where I felt like a game producer (Michael Murray) accidentally said the quiet part out loud. If your competitive game isn't "skewed towards higher level players" then what you have is a glorified party game. Explains a lot about the state of T8.

I don't know what's in the water in Japan this week, but the low tier heroes are doing crazy work. Sofitia just won a loaded Rollin'pic 2026 Qualifier for CvS2 with a team that most people would think was a joke pick. A-Kyosuke/Athena/Morrigan VOD:

More "firsts" in fighting games. Ring-outs, super armor, and more. Tried to be fairly thorough, but probably got at least one of these wrong over this little series. Several games did certain things in very close proximity to each other or in slightly different ways.

Tatsu just made top 8 with V-ISM Dan in an A3 tourney with a lot of killers. Dude went through 2 V-Akumas with amazing pushblocks and neutral. Crazy. Dan's like a mini C. Viper in this game with how controllable his air dan kicks are. VOD here:

Throwback to Daigo vs Kiyo in USF4 at EVO. They had history going back to A3. Both were guests at a UK tourney in 2K4 as well. Was disappointed no commentators acknowledged any of the history, but too "before their time", I guess -- even for Ultradavid.

Some "firsts" in fighting games, or at least as many as I could fit. Some may not be what you expect. Something was definitely in the water from 92-94 in particular. Devs were going nuts with new systems. Also crazy how much technology changed from 87-94. (Pt. 2 later)

Some corrections and a bunch of new additions to my "who was first in fighting games" series. Thanks to everyone who pointed out mistakes/dropped knowledge. Bunch were things I should've known and kinda spaced on. One might be a stretch, but it did inspire Power Stone.

Since this combo's been making the rounds, and some people were complaining that it was all training mode videos. Here you go, lol -- courtesy of Verna. Best to go get grab a drink if you get caught.

Reminder that if you want to learn Fatal Fury Special after watching the amazing world tourney recently, the EN wiki is surprisingly detailed with hitboxes, system info, etc. Source for one of the greatest FFS matches of all time:

Lowkey, DFO/DnF is a much better fighting game than the actual fighting game it inspired Shame it's locked behind a P2W KMMO, awful netcode that falls apart outside of KR/CN and some of the worst region-free matchmaking ever in the global version Source:

Since people have been asking, here's some beginner friendly-ish A3 customs for learning V Not meant to be optimal, but can do enough damage to keep people honest, while avoiding harder sequences/crouch cancels when possible Full video with more setups:

More comebacks and almost comebacks with Neiman. Lot of work to do to catch up to where his neutral is at these days.

Just a short PSA for people trying to learn fighting games -- particularly older ones. I see way too much focus on memorizing numbers, especially from younger players, which is usually a recipe for frustration and failure. #StreetFighter
