I know all the cool kids are riding and racing gravel now. This old dog’s racing days are behind him but I still love to pedal. And I travel a ton. When I do, I almost exclusively bring my gravel bike. Rides just fine — in fact great — on the pavement. And, not always being familiar with where I’m heading, I can always ‘explore’ a little. Those close to me know that I love documentaries. It’s pretty much a border line obsession. So imagine my level of excitement when I was invited to narrate the new documentary chronicling the rise (and fall) of Schwinn Bikes. I grew up riding, training, and racing on Schwinn Bikes, so this one actually brought me all the way back. Shout out to Athletic Brewing for helping a long day in the studio seem a little shorter. The training, the team camaraderie, and the racing. 1989 district champs baby. Go Panthers. Fast forward to 2024 — the ankles are cranky and the hips are stiff, but I still love getting out there and lacing ‘em up.

Great to finally get the mountain bike dusted off this season. And what better place to start off than NWA (Northwest Arkansas)?! Arguably the mountain bike capital of the world. Looking forward to summer in Aspen filled with time on the dirt. I know I said I’m not training for anything, but… Lately everybody has been talking about something called “HYROX.” So I had to get after it. What is a HYROX? 8 x 1 km runs interspersed with these stations: 1. SkiErg 2. Sled Push 3. Sled Pull 4. Burpee Broad Jumps 5. RowErg 6. Farmers Carry 7. Sandbag Lunges 8. Wall Balls I was like: “Doesn’t seem that hard.” Well, I was dead wrong. This shit is hard. Who else is gonna give it a go?

You know what I love? Competing. I don’t think I’ll ever stop. Doesn’t matter the event. Could be one I’ve known about forever or one that lands on my radar and I’m like, “🤔, well fuckin’ A that sounds hard and cool and I’m curious about what that pain cave feels like”. Been about a month since my last competition and I’m craving the sūffering again. Training daily, training hard. Ready for whatever’s next. My friends at KetoneIQ fueling me until then…

Third go around with my “frenemy” the ACID BATH. Pure anaerobic misery. 500 meters ski erg, 500 meters row erg, 1000 mts bike erg. All on Concept2 gear. The way my brain works is that I just assume my times will keep coming down. Alas, it doesn’t work that way. I’m definitely getting fitter and stronger but was “off”. Lacked that final gear. I plan on making this lil suffer fest a monthly check in. Anyone else wanna take some acid (bath) action? 👊🏼
