It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the devastating loss of three of our brave deputies, who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. These were not just deputies, they were fathers, sons, mentors, and protectors who dedicated their lives to serving our communities with courage and honor. Deputy Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Deputy Victor Lemus, and Deputy William Osborn were members of our Arson and Explosives Detail. Each of them had years of experience, a deep commitment to their calling, and an unwavering sense of duty. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. We are devastated, we are grieving, and we are holding close the families, friends, and colleagues who now carry the weight of unimaginable loss. But even through our sorrow, we will honor them. We will remember their dedication, their sacrifice, and their legacy. May Deputy Kelley-Eklund, Deputy Lemus, and Deputy Osborn rest in eternal peace. Your watch may have ended, but your impact lives on in every life you touched, every life you saved, and every heart you inspired.

LASD reminds our residents and community members affected by the fires to be patient and listen to all instructions and orders provided by State, County, and City officials as well law enforcement and fire personnel. We want to re-populate our communities as soon as possible, however, we need your support and continued cooperation. There are still downed power lines, open gas lines and unpredictable damaged structures that can cause serious injury or death. Please help us avoid using our resources to conduct rescue missions, as our focus is to maintain a high patrol visibility and prevent looters from entering the affected areas. Anyone caught looting will be arrested. Your safety is our top priority-thank you for your cooperation. Together, we can get through this safely. Stay alert and stay safe. #LASD Ready Los Angeles County LA City Emergency Management Department (EMD) Malibu/Lost Hills Station LASD Crescenta Valley Station LASD Altadena Sheriff’s Station LACoFD Angeles National Forest LAFD 🔥 CHP - West Valley CHP Altadena

*Identifying LASD Personnel: Uniform Guidelines and Community Awareness* With thousands of Deputies serving daily, #LASD uniforms follow clear standards so the public can easily identify Department personnel. Standard uniforms include green pants, tan shirts, visible names/badge numbers, and gold star badges. Specialized units or detectives may wear different attire, but all clearly display “Sheriff” and ID. We’ve included a video to help you recognize our various uniforms. If you’re ever unsure about someone claiming to be a Deputy, ask for their name or request a supervisor. Your safety and trust matter.

This Independence Day weekend, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department proudly encourages all residents to celebrate the freedoms we cherish safely, responsibly, and united as a nation. As we honor our country’s founding, let us protect the land we love. Southern California faces increased wildfire risk this summer, with dry brush, soaring temperatures, and strong winds creating dangerous fire conditions. The Eaton and Palisades Fires, which devastated over 37,000 acres and claimed lives and homes earlier this year, remind us of the importance of vigilance. To help keep our communities safe and preserve the beauty of our homeland, please follow these essential DOs and DON’Ts: DO: Celebrate America’s birthday at a professional fireworks show Keep pets indoors and calm during loud festivities Report illegal fireworks to your local non-emergency number DON’T: Use illegal fireworks — they’re dangerous, unlawful, and a wildfire threat Mix alcohol with fireworks or drive under the influence Looking for a fireworks show near you? Visit: or ( honor this great nation with celebration and care for one another and the land we call home. Stand proud, stay safe, and have a fire-free Fourth of July weekend.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of one of our deputies. On Monday afternoon around 3:40 p.m., a 21-year-old off-duty deputy was involved in a traffic collision on San Francisquito Canyon Road in Santa Clarita. He was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Our deputy joined the Department on May 2, 2024, and had recently completed the academy. He was proudly serving at the North County Correctional Facility, dedicating himself to protecting and helping others. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our own, who was taken from us far too soon,” said Sheriff Robert G. Luna. “Our Deputy dedicated his life to the service and safety of others, both in and out of uniform. His commitment to public safety was not just a job—it was who he was. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who knew him.” We are providing full support to the deputy’s family, including transportation and resources, as they navigate this unimaginable loss. The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the collision. Please keep his loved ones and our LASD family in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

Altadena, we hear your concerns about wanting to re-enter. At the moment, the only area where an evacuation order has been downgraded to an evacuation warning, is within the unincorporated county area of the Altadena community which is: -South of New York Drive and East of North Hill Avenue to Altadena Drive. Other areas under mandatory evacuation zones are still unsafe to enter, whether it be due to downed power lines, unsafe gas lines, or structures with unstable foundations. ⚠️ Disaster and utility workers are diligently working to safely re-open evacuation zones as soon as possible. 🚧 Law enforcement will continue to maintain a strong presence in both the evacuated and repopulated areas to ensure the safety of residents and their property. 🏠 Please visit to check the current evacuation status of your residence.💻 Remember to dial 911 for any emergency. 📞

Today, with a heavy heart, I joined so many others in honoring the life and sacrifice of Baldwin Park Police Officer Samuel Riveros. As Sheriff of Los Angeles County, I was deeply moved by the outpouring of love and respect shown for a young man who gave everything in service to his community. Officer Riveros represented the very best of what it means to wear the badge, courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others. His loss is felt not only by his family and the Baldwin Park Police Department but by our entire law enforcement family across Los Angeles County. We will remember Samuel not just for how he died, but for how he lived with heart, integrity, and honor. On behalf of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, I offer my deepest condolences and continued support to his loved ones. May his memory forever remind us of the true meaning of service. - Sheriff Robert Luna
