It's been quite something to see one of the world's leading climate scientists, James Hansen, being vilified the past six years for presenting data showing the rapid acceleration of global and regional warming, associated with continued greenhouse gas emissions and rapid reduction of (dimming) particulate air pollution. Loud voices in the climate community ignore the actual science and constantly use cherry-picking, strawmann arguments and ad hominems to try and deny the undeniable. Pretending that we have been exaggerating, while it's likely even worse than we feared (again, based on data). False hope and vested interests will get a lot of people killed, as it has for centuries.

🚨 None of the United Nations IPCC models capture what NASA satellites are seeing. We should assume and prepare for the worst, as there is a non-zero chance of 3°C of global warming by 2050. We better assume that it will happen and/or try to make sure that it doesn't happen. 1/

This fallacy that 'actions by our governments' will limit global warming to about 2.7°C is very dangerous. We could experience this level of warming already around 2050, based on real forcing (greenhouse gases and aerosols) changes and observations of Earth’s Energy Imbalance

We had a great Climate Chat about the temperatures of the past years, the causes, and about what's next, as warming has accelerated. Here I explain how 130,000 years of greenhouse gas and aerosol forcing impacted our climate. Using estimates from Global warming in the pipeline
