Interesting situation occurred last night in a Region 6B BBB game between Gettysburg & Ipswich #SDPreps Tied at 59 w/0:22 left, Ipswich had the last possession & scored the winning basket. But as it appears, the basket should have never counted. Gettysburg submitted a formal appeal but was pointed out that "SDHSAA handbook states appeals regarding an officials ruling can not be considered" & the basket will still count According to an open letter statement by Gettysburg, "this situation prompted discussion about possible future improvements to help prevent similar circumstances." We can all beat around the bush.. pretend that it's not volleyball but that's a lot of it.. If we don't do something.. We are killing girls' basketball.. They have a vested interest; they want to make the playoffs. They want as many orange slices & participation trophies that they can get." "We need to start asking people that don't have a vested interest in these things, including the board of directors.. I would be in favor of forming up an independent task force. Something needs to be done because HSFB state football playoffs used to be an extremely exciting time of year.
