Interesting situation occurred last night in a Region 6B BBB game between Gettysburg & Ipswich #SDPreps Tied at 59 w/0:22 left, Ipswich had the last possession & scored the winning basket. But as it appears, the basket should have never counted. Gettysburg submitted a formal appeal but was pointed out that "SDHSAA handbook states appeals regarding an officials ruling can not be considered" & the basket will still count According to an open letter statement by Gettysburg, "this situation prompted discussion about possible future improvements to help prevent similar circumstances." This could be "instant replay at sub-state games or requiring officials to confer about last second calls before leaving the floor." ℹ️Gettysburg School District FB Page 📹Ipswich Valley Live Sports YT

There was an engaging discussion during the SDHSAA Basketball Advisory Committee Meeting today about participation numbers in GBB & what could be done to improve numbers #SDPreps Donavan DeBoer: "We've witnessed the decline in girls' basketball.. We can all beat around the bush.. pretend that it's not volleyball but that's a lot of it.. If we don't do something.. We are killing girls' basketball.. We've talked about, we've talked about, we've talked about... Something has to be done."

More from Stu Whitney's discussion of HSFB classes today: "We need to stop asking 9-man football coaches whether there should be 2 or 3 classes of 9-man football in SD. They have a vested interest; they want to make the playoffs. They want as many orange slices & participation trophies that they can get." "We need to start asking people that don't have a vested interest in these things, including the board of directors.. I would be in favor of forming up an independent task force. Something needs to be done because HSFB state football playoffs used to be an extremely exciting time of year. They still are in a lot of ways but we're not maximizing that postseason format." 🎧 #SDPreps
