BREAKING: Hurricane Hunters just measured an almost unbelievable 889 mb pressure inside Hurricane Polo. If that reading is confirmed, Polo would become the second strongest hurricane ever recorded in the eastern Pacific, behind only Hurricane Patricia in 2015. What makes this even more remarkable is how quickly Polo got here. The storm has intensified at an extraordinary rate, being only a tropical storm 24 hours ago. An 889 mb pressure is an exceptionally rare number in the eastern Pacific, putting Polo into truly historic territory. We are watching one of the strongest Pacific hurricanes ever observed unfold in real time.

We are watching something incredibly rare unfold in the Pacific Ocean right now... Hurricane Polo is rapidly intensifying, and the storm has now strengthened into a borderline Category 3 hurricane, with further intensification into Category 5 strength expected by tomorrow evening. This hurricane could look dramatically different just 24 hours from now. If current trends continue, we could be looking at the strongest hurricane of the season!

HURRICANE POLO HAS REACHED CATEGORY 5 STRENGTH FOR THE THIRD TIME! Polo has once again exploded into a 180 mph Category 5 hurricane, marking the third separate time the storm has reached Category 5 intensity. This is an extraordinary milestone: Polo is the first hurricane on record to reach Category 5 strength three separate times with all three peaks occurring in the Eastern Pacific. And at 180 mph, Polo has once again reached the third-highest wind speed ever recorded in the Eastern Pacific. Polo is certainly one for the history books.

Hurricane Isaias will be making landfall within the next 2 hours! The southern side of the eyewall has collapsed in recent radar imagery, but the northern side continues to look particularly nasty, likely producing wind gusts exceeding 100 mph from Pensacola to Santa Rosa Beach. Regardless of its appearance or category at landfall, this will be a dangerous system, with damaging winds, flooding, and tornadoes all possible well inland.

Climate models are projecting a historic surge in Pacific ocean temperatures! The newly updated CanSIPS model indicates the developing El Nino could reach a peak of +4.15°C! Water temperatures this warm would place us well into Super El Niño territory. An oceanic anomaly of this magnitude significantly redirects the jet stream across North America. Expect major ripple effects on upcoming fall and winter weather patterns across the country!

Isaias' remnants triggered dozens of tornado warnings across the Carolinas today... A total of 30 tornado warnings were issued across the Carolinas by 7 PM EDT Sunday, including 9 for observed tornadoes and two particularly dangerous situation (PDS) warnings. The threat has now wound down, but damage surveys are still needed to determine how many tornadoes occurred and how strong they were. At least five tornadoes had already been confirmed in central North Carolina by Sunday evening.
