Decided to go back to making Shadertoy fluid sims for for a bit. This time I improved my particle clustering cellular automaton SPH fluid sim to support multiple species particle merging and splitting. Also some fine tuning of the physics.

Implemented anisotropic kernels in my VRChat fluid sim ( Now to figure out how to get high quality normals out of this... (no screen space, thanks) Also still need to make tighter billboard quads for the ellipsoids, rn pretty expensive to render

I'm slowly porting my approximate grid SPH simulation to VRChat. It did require few improvements to be stable enough, now its a hybrid neighbor index/particle average grid. Still need to implement d4rkpl4y3r's mip counting sorting method for improved performance.

I decided to post the black hole shader for free, it's not something super special to keep for myself. You can get it from For depth occlusion to properly work in VRChat you must also add a directional light (with hard shadows, color can be black).

Been recently looking into fluid simulations again. This time I've testing if I can make a good SPH simulation but only having "average" cell particles. It seems to work surprisingly well, and it doesn't need sorting either. Explanation thread👇🧵

I've ported my vrchat isosurface ray tracer to shadertoy and added it to my fluid simulation there. Its probably the fastest multibounce ray tracing for liquids I've made thus far.

Tried to use reintegration tracking for simulating something "shallow water equation" like. Curiously it was simply enough to put an ideal gas in a potential field of the terrain shape. In that case the density is proportional to the height of the water. (but you do need to find this proportionality constant somehow first)
