I've optimized the radix sort a bit too, now it can do 5 billion key/value pairs sorted per second while using 0 (!) compute shaders. This makes sorting a tiny part of the simulation. I could even make an infinite unbounded SPH sim now, but only with the particles like below:
The 0 gravity mode is especially cool looking, might be cool to make some kind of guns shooting that stuff around. It could potentially be used for gameplay, but only if you are fine with only the simulation master user having the "actual" fluid state.
Because without deterministic simulation, timestepping and input synchorization with validation the fluid sim is guaranteed to diverge. It might be still similar enough to be usable, but not if left sitting for a long time, only if you "force" the fluid into a similar state
Thats why particle pools in VRChat still "work". Particles tend to settle in the same-ish configuration with time due to gravity pulling the fluid down and not interacting with the game scene.
I want pool worlds to use this!!!!! (also i have other ideas that are more lewd of course but POOL IS EPIC)
what rendering do you prefer? balls, mentos, opaque liquid or actual ray traced fluid?

It would be really good for a pool or ocean world if you make one! I know theres a lot of pool worlds on VRChat but they call feel the same and dont really feel pool or ocean enough
weird big brain theory: Is it possible to bake simulations? Like, into a Seed of sorts? I'd LOVE to see this used for the rippling/crashing of waves on a shore. Sure there's LOD and culling tech, but Saving even about 20 fps would be insanely performant within VRChat.
I'd say its not easy enough to be worth it: either too much required memory, determinism issues or too much memory required

I’m building a browser strategy game about giant bee colonies, so this immediately made me think of floodwater breaching lower hive chambers or honey spilling from ruptured comb after an attack. How well can the simulation handle very different viscosities? It looks incredibly smooth for Udon. 🐝
The issue is collider leaking to be honest, without good collision handling that will never work
I just look over and my computer starts literally cooking. But truly can this run well because its really really good.
depends on what, should be fine down to something like 3060 with a smallish grid. This was 256k particles, 64k should be enough for most things
