Lyn Alden: "The best product Coca-Cola ever sold was their bonds, not their Coke." Coca-Cola borrows at 2-3% while the money supply grows at 7%. They then use that cheap debt to buy scarcer assets. Governments do it. Corporations do it. Wealthy individuals do it. Everyone is shorting the currency... Except the people at the bottom. They can't access cheap debt and "are getting the full damage of the inflation" on their wages and savings. FT Lyn Alden Peter McCormack 🏴☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪.

Lyn Alden: "I keep fading the equity bears..." "When we're running at 7% of GDP deficits as far as the eye can see, being bearish on stocks basically means you're bullish on fiat." "You're saying, what? Stocks are going to go down vs. the dollar?" Since COVID, Lyn says the winners have been hard assets: Gold, $BTC, high quality stocks and the best real estate with fixed-rate debt. Bonds, meanwhile, have had one of their worst five or six year stretches in our parents' and grandparents' lifetimes. Her case rests on deficits, and those won't shrink because tech had a bad week. She files bitcoin next to gold and quality stocks as an asset that holds up while governments keep spending. Are you fading the doomers or hedging for them? FT Lyn Alden Maggie Lake Wealthion

Bitcoin could be the next big trade after AI. Lyn Alden says the AI trade is showing signs of exhaustion after a massive run. And here's the interesting part: AI stocks don't need to crash. They just need to stop being the market's "fastest horse." That's when investors could start looking at Bitcoin again. Chamath: "I just think it [BTC] is capped, and then I think eventually it gets hacked, and then it goes to zero." "The most obvious thing to point it to would be to Satoshi's wallet..." "It's a bunch of people that can't even agree, you know, where to meet..." Chamath's scenario has Bitcoin's cryptography being cracked, draining Satoshi's coins, shorting the market and then announcing the hack. He wants a move to quantum-resistant cryptography and doubts the community can agree on one. He also says he no longer owns crypto directly, only equity in Digital Currency Group. The risk is real but slow. No computer today can break Bitcoin's keys, and quantum-resistant address proposals are already in front of developers. For anyone holding $BTC, the useful step is keeping coins in an address that hasn't exposed its public key and watching how fast that upgrade moves. Is quantum on your worry list? It's not a theoretical link..." "But no one cares about crypto right now." "Markets need energy." "And then you've got Saylor selling a little bit. I don't know why he did that, it was a strange move..." "It was a tiny amount - but if the guy with laser eyes is selling $BTC, that's not good either." Kevin Warsh's logic behind killing forward guidance: "Financial market prices are probably the most important source of information to guide central bankers." "But when all the financial markets are doing is reflecting back what we've said - then we're taking the most important source of information, and we're being blind to it."

Lyn Alden: People keep asking "when will the debt matter?" Like there's some big day of reckoning coming. "Sovereign debt tends to work differently. It tends to be more of a process." "It has been mattering... since about 2018/2019." The US deficit is now bigger than ALL private bank lending combined. That's never happened outside a recession before. FT Lyn Alden Danny Knowles.

Most critics think Ethereum is getting cannibalized by L2s. But the founders of Ethlabs believe Ethereum is quietly positioning itself to become the root of the global economy. Fast confirmation rules are set to slash transfer friction by 98%, L2s are onboarding tens of millions of real-world users, and L1 is cementing its position as the primary economic settlement hub. Lyn Alden: The market keeps relying on outdated inflation patterns. Everyone learned from the 70s that "the solution to inflation is always higher rates." But that was an era when money creation came from bank lending. "When you're in fiscal dominance... every time they raise interest rates, they actually blow out the fiscal deficit even more." The Fed is fighting the wrong fire with the wrong tool. FT David Lin Lyn Alden ego death capital.

F*cking up your future is trying to trade." Very few traders actually make compounding returns. Mike Novogratz: The US has $40T of debt and there's only one way out. "The only way we deal with that debt is to inflate it away. Period. End of story." Run 4% inflation while convincing markets you're targeting 2%. Do that for 10 years and you've erased 30% of real debt. The danger is that people could lose confidence, and 4% becomes 14% or 40% - wiping out debt AND wealth simultaneously. FT Anthony Scaramucci Mike Novogratz All Things Markets SkyBridge.

$NEAR is trading at ~$5. Bitwise's base case price target implies a ~40x by 2030. Matt Hougan's reframe is simple: a 40-50x still makes NEAR less valuable than Ethereum is today. "Is it absurd to think that the fundamental layer on which agentic finance takes place is less valuable at maturity than Ethereum is today at the depths of the bear market?" Lyn Alden: Silicon Valley doesn't get Bitcoin because tech people know the first mover rarely wins. Ask Jeeves didn't win search. MySpace didn't win social. But Bitcoin isn't a regular technology - it's a protocol. And protocols don't get replaced once they win. Internet history is littered with them: tcp, https, smtp, ip, and more. David Hoffman: "The decision to sell my $ETH came from seeing a difficulty in the Ethereum network being market competitive." ETH went from 90%+ smart contract dominance to 60%, and that gap is the difference between "ETH is money" and "ETH is just another L1 asset." What's missing is a killer instinct at the top (the EF). Lyn Alden: The entire modern money system is only 55 years old (most people alive today were born before it existed). "It's kind of like this been this grand experiment that the whole world has done." Before the 1970s, money was backed by gold. Now it's just a list of ones and zeros managed by people who can't balance a budget. The question was always whether politicians could run a ledger responsibly. "The answer so far is that in almost every country imbalances slowly grow." FT Lyn Alden Peter McCormack 🏴☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪.

Lyn Alden: Money supply in the developed world has historically grown around 7% per year. The average salary raise = Maybe 2-3%. Over a decade, you're getting a smaller and smaller share of the total money supply just by showing up to work. "People kind of look around and say, 'why does it seem like everything's more expensive? I'm still earning money, but it just doesn't feel like it goes as far.'" "And a lot of times they're right." Lyn Alden: Bitcoin's 4-year cycle had its best run, and now AI is eating its lunch. "For a long time, Bitcoin was the fastest horse really that you could invest in." But the rise of AI companies gave investors a 10x alternative. Capital that used to chase $BTC is now chasing semiconductors. Bitcoin's unique edge - self-custody, borderless, unseizable - doesn't disappear. But from a pure price performance standpoint, "AI is kind of sucking a lot of the attention out of it." When AI goes sideways, Bitcoin may re-attract that capital. FT Lyn Alden GoldRepublic.
