The first actors able to break Bitcoin’s exposed public keys won’t be random hackers. They’ll be nation-states working with the large corporations already building the quantum systems. If that capability appears, the US government has the strongest incentive to move first. It already runs a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and is funding quantum research at scale. The rational play is to secure the largest unprotected pots—especially long-dormant Satoshi-era coins—before an adversary does. That is white-hat extraction by necessity, not optional.
