Today I signed the letter to the Lord Chancellor opposing any early release for those convicted of manslaughter. Because if you've taken a life, there should be no early release. Not in prison. Not under a hospital order. Nowhere. It cannot stop at prison sentences. It must include offenders detained under hospital orders too. For decades, victims in the forensic mental health system have been ignored while life-changing decisions are made behind closed doors. 9 in 10 restricted patients are discharged within 10 years. These are mental health criminals like Calocane. The criminal justice system is failing victims. The forensic mental health system is failing victims. And politicians are failing victims. Now we're told prisons are full and "difficult decisions" have to be made. Rubbish… Prison overcrowding wasn't caused by victims. Court backlogs weren't caused by victims. Chronic underfunding of justice wasn't caused by victims. The department responsible for our courts, prisons, probation and public protection receives in an entire year what is spent elsewhere in government in around two weeks. That isn't a justice system failure. That's political failure. Build prisons. Clear the backlog. Fund justice properly. Reform the system. But stop asking bereaved families to accept less accountability because governments failed to do their job. Victims don't get early release from grief. Why should offenders get early release from the consequences of taking a life?

Outstanding reporting but it’s 18 minutes of💔 Hearing the 999 calls, watching them walk innocently towards their fate and seeing that evil monster roaming the streets casually after the attack is unbearable. I bought Barney those trousers for his 19th birthday and his t-shirt was one he’d ‘borrowed’ from his brother. To all who failed - I hold you responsible for his death; and you WILL be held to account.

This is more than 4 minutes long. This was last Saturday. It was the final journey for Sam Strachan; eldest son of my beautiful and brave school friend Jo. He was a father, he was a biker (clearly!), he was a son, a brother, he was a talented drummer in his own band (Leave Before Dawn), he was a business man, he was a renowned photographer, a renowned videographer. He was 32. He was killed in July in a tragic collision in Exeter. I, along with many many others, said a final farewell to him at Exeter Crem. Life is cruel and brutal. 💔 You do not need to watch to the end. But if you can, do. The first 15 seconds though will show you the power of love, of strength, of community, compassion and respect. His Mum is with him at the start. She’s the one waving the red and back glow sticks! She was with him when he came into our world and she was with him when he left; far far too soon. I know her pain. With her agreement I wanted to share this. I want to let the little bit of the world that follows me know that Sam Strachan lived. He made an impact. Like my beautiful amazing Barney - he was so loved, by so many. And there is good out there. Even when the worst thing in the world happens. Humanity will always win. Rest easy Sam. Give my boy a hug. Ps. Mr Brightside is also his favourite song! 🕊️ 💚💛❤️🖤

En route to London. Next stage of round table meetings with the Law Commission - reviewing the much much outdated homicide laws. That’s where we must have two tier (for murder) and not in our policing. Diminished responsibility has been used and abused for far too long. Murder is murder…. Wednesday 17th June. Still here (just). As expected, I crashed rather over the past week or so, and the anniversary was just crushing 💔 Huge thank you to everyone who took time to share my beautiful boy’s pictures on the 13th. Will confirm the dates when we are meeting with them asap. Our tragedy and the catastrophic failures and urgency for action is not political. We must be cross party (even if the parties themselves aren’t!). ➡️ We are open to meet across all to ensure this is addressed. So, Westminster, please reach out. But today we got to enjoy a bit of time out with the beautiful Kumar family and our incredible legal team at Wembley Stadium for the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final. Neil Hudgell; you have been such a source of support. Without you (and team) I honestly think we’d have thrown ourselves off of Beachy Head two years ago. Good people are out there….🙏

End of day 1. week 5. The failures just keep coming. 💔 Ian was left in the road for 15 hours and only covered by blankets for two of those (no tents available!)! 💔 More vapid dishonourable excuses for a pathetic search. 💔 Ian was less than 2 miles away. 💔 Had your drone pilot bothered to send it up he could have covered a huge area in the 70 minutes between murders. Admit it! 💔 Admission that the ACC knew that a large number of people accessed the most sensitive of body worn footage. And watched it all. 💔 Of my poor child fighting for his life. 💔 But chose not to carry out an audit because it would be too big a job. 💔 You must reopen all misconduct actions, and this time do it properly. 💔 A comms strategy of damage limitation, evasion, reputation management on a ‘only if asked’ basis. Where is the candour? 💔 One part of your evidence that was accurate is your opinion (as with so many) that they were victims of a planned, prepared and targeted attack. More evidence of this monster’s fixation and clear hatred of young students. 💔 Calocane. You evil sick coward. You hid in the shadows. You waited for your prey. You let 7 people pass you by before you ambushed two innocent 19 year olds. May your dark soul rest in hell. 💔 #nottinghaminquiry

Tuesday 23rd June. On our way into central London for very significant meetings. As soon as I can, will disclose. Also; Horrified by yet more egregious scandal from the @NHSNotts yesterday. Failures at every level proven across all three hospital trusts. Yet Chief Execs and Chair retire with golden pensions and payouts; and senior management promoted upwards. Despite years of failure. Morally bankrupt. Accountability must be at all levels. Top down…. #nottinghaminquiry 💛💚

❗️My direct response to Dr Manjeet Shermar and the Nottingham University Hospital CEO and Board. Following conclusion of your investigation into staff breaches and misconduct we will insist upon the following. For ALL 150 staff who accessed Barney’s records. 1. What role did they hold. 2. What exactly did they look at. 3. When did they look at it. 4. Why did they access it. 5. The time and date of access. 6. What action they took after access (with records of relevant). ADDITIONALLY (for staff who have faced any action). 7. What action was taken. 8. How was the decision made. 9. What was the outcome. 10. What other bodies have they been referred to. You state the panel hearings will be complete within a couple of weeks. Please ensure this information as stated is made available in full to our legal team no later than 31st July. #nottinghaminquiry 💚💛

‘As a mother’…. You use that statement relentlessly Celeste Calocane. As ‘Barney’s Mum’ I can’t stand to witness a moment more of you. I’ve heard all I needed to. To confirm my instincts from early on that there is so much more to this family than your sanitised version of you all. Where is the father???? Shabir Ahmed. We need rid. He fills me with nothing but disgust. He’s taken enough from our country and his victims already. Whatever it takes, our criminal justice system and our government have to do the right thing now. When he is finally away from our shores, let us never hear his name spoken of again. And here’s a thought. Why can’t we get rid of Valdo Calocane whilst we are at it. A parasite on our nation. Not born here, not raised here, has contributed nothing but chaos, pain and misery. #nottinghaminquiry
