Venus’ greatest elongation is now visible! When a planet is at its greatest elongation, we observe the greatest visual separation between the planet and the Sun, as seen from Earth – making it an ideal time for viewing. This weekend is a great time to catch Venus, especially through a telescope!

Why is Sentinel-6B built to measure the height of the ocean? Because that measurement can affect our daily life – from improving weather forecasts to helping protect coastal infrastructure like military installations. This data also keeps ships safe at sea, like the ones carrying our packages!

Powering the next giant leap. A novel electromagnetic thruster that runs on lithium metal vapor was successfully fired up for the first time during initial tests at JPL. Fully developed and paired with a nuclear power source, these thrusters could reduce launch mass and support payloads required for human Mars missions.

Earth has a temporary, tiny companion. While not quite a "mini moon," since it will never be captured by Earth's gravity, Asteroid 2024 PT5 does have a similar orbit as our planet and will linger in our vicinity for a few months.

Now through the end of the month, Saturn’s rings are on view – but you might notice something a little bit odd about them through your telescope. 🪐 The rings look thinner than normal because of the way that Saturn is tilted in relation to the Earth.
