I asked NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman when we'll have boots on Mars, this was his response: "SpaceX's stated priority right now is the Moon, not Mars and that changes the Mars timeline and how many people we're talking about. We can invest in nuclear power and propulsion. It's part of national space policy. It's the next giant leap—potentially the pathway with the fewest miracles required to put four people on Mars in the next 10 to 15 years. Not the Elon vision of millions in a self-sustaining city, but what NASA can do through taxpayer funding and nuclear investments, plus industry alongside it. So step one is the Moon in 2028. In parallel, we invest in nuclear power and propulsion. Hopefully that frees up resources for the next stop: Mars. Different timeframe probably that 15-year mark."

Varda's delian says a mass driver on the Moon - a payload delivery system that relies on an electromagnetic catapult - could be a huge unlock for getting payloads to Mars. It wouldn't work great on Earth because atmospheric drag and other factors unique to our planet make it super difficult. But on the Moon, which has no atmosphere and a shallow gravity well, you could imagine a scenario where we're mining metals and other materials there and launching them out to Mars.

Since the initial design of the modular FLEX rover, Astrolab has focused on developing a mobility solution to meet the near- and long-term needs of the lunar economy. Use cases include everything from transporting large payloads on the lunar surface in lander-agnostic containers to deploying essential lunar infrastructure. Activities like rolling out cables are crucial for establishing and connecting alternative power sources on the Moon. For example, cable roll-out is key in the deployment and operations of fission power systems and other critical infrastructure. Early in rover development, we performed field tests of custom payloads that could support power and comms infrastructure, collect samples, and facilitate the use of lunar resources. These tests informed the development of our design to ensure FLEX is as “flexible” as possible.

With our first launch of a Canadian commercial rocket from a Canadian commercial spaceport set to take flight in the coming weeks, the future of a true sovereign capability for assured access to space has never looked so promising. We're thrilled to share footage of ASX's SLC-02 publicly for the first time. ASX will support NordSpace’s first commercial launch of our Taiga suborbital rocket with Taiga's launch window opening on August 25th 2025. Taiga is powered by the company’s proprietary 3D-printed Hadfield Mk III liquid rocket engine, and the mission is named "Getting Screeched In". The launch window is subject to road and power interruptions due to the ongoing state of emergency in Newfoundland and Labrador. This launch follows a series of successful tests, including a fully integrated rocket test and a month-long qualification campaign for the Hadfield Mk III engine. Both demonstrated rapid refurbishment capabilities and turnarounds between tests, paving the way for reusable and cost-effective launch operations from Canadian soil. Orbital launch was the domain of governments alone, until Elon Musk and SpaceX proved a private company could get there too. Today, a young Indian team has done it successfully on its first attempt, and India now joins that rare club. I enjoyed speaking with Pawan about the years of work behind Vikram-1, the fear of failure before the launch, and the support Skyroot received from the government, IN-SPACe, and the wider ecosystem. What excites me most is what this signals to the world: India can build high-precision, highly reliable, deep-technology products for global customers. Neil Armstrong once described a single step as a giant leap for mankind. For India's private space journey, this is exactly that kind of leap. A historic beginning for Skyroot and an important moment for every Indian entrepreneur building for the world.
