Unbelievable scenes with both Adam Reynolds & Ezra Mam suffering hamstring injuries on the one play - a turn & chase on Xavier Coates. Both high speed mechanisms & noticeably limping - likely multi-week recoveries incoming & as we’ve seen with other similar cases recently could easily be 4-6 weeks. Never seen anything like it.

Only 5 weeks until the NRLW GF - common recovery range for broken jaws is 4-8 weeks. Fingers crossed it isn’t season ending but didn’t look good.

Devastating news with Storm announcing Xavier Coates ruptured his achilles at training today - he will undergo surgery which ends his 2026 season. Coates has had a lengthy battle with an achilles issue - he indicated a partial tear was discovered post season 2025 that he attempted to rehab for months. Then he underwent surgery earlier this year to remove a bone spur & bursa around the achilles. Now worst case scenario with a complete tendon rupture. Achilles repair surgery usually involves a 5-8 month recovery period - one of the toughest rehab processes & players often take even longer to return to their best. Wish him the best with surgery & recovery ahead.

Great thread on Deine Mariner. Discussed on the pod last night - there’s nothing to the suggestions of mistreatment. The incidence rate of a thigh cork progressing to compartment syndrome is so low it isn’t even documented in literature - effectively it would be less than 0.1%. Mariner played through a cork, which happens week in & week out in all contact sports. It just had a super rare complication. Thankfully he had excellent care to identify & treat it as quickly as possible.

The NRL have confirmed there will be no rule changes heading into the 2025 season. That means kickoffs will be staying the same - the proposed 7 tackle/20m line change from a report earlier today won’t come into effect. News that will be well received by Paleaaesina enthusiasts.

Eli Katoa’s brain bleed that required surgery is as serious as it gets - a medical emergency that could have had catastrophic consequences. We look at: - 3 blows to the head - the main mechanisms of injury - a surgery that requires part of the skull to be removed to gain access to the brain - comparisons to Te Maire Martin (who took 3 years off footy) - recovery possibilities Again, thoughts are with Katoa as he recovers.

I’m all for cracking down on poor tackle tech & following framework when it comes to punishing high tackles, but “no mitigation” is laughable here. He was lower at a good tackle height but got swung around. Decisions like this will lose players and fans

Keaon Koloamatangi has been named on an extended bench for the Rabbitohs this week - could he play just one week after suffering an eye socket fracture? It’s not common but it’s been done before! Even if it isn’t quite this week I think SuperCoach/Fantasy players will be happy.

Cameron Munster’s hip surgeries involved the repair of labral (cartilage) tears & removal of bone spurs. These issues often cause groin pain, which has hampered Munster in recent seasons. His preseason will be limited but is expected to play Rd 1 - hopefully with no groin pain.
