I was terrified of being stuck painted blue and sitting in makeup for four and a half hours every morning and night. I had just met James Gunn, but I also wanted to do Seth MacFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West instead of living in London for six months. Plus, being in Marvel's first flop isn't good for your career. I thought a movie about a talking tree and a talking raccoon was bound to bomb, and that Chris Pratt and I would never work again! I was completely wrong, James Gunn is a genius who can make anything work, but I was at a precarious moment in my career. Sitting in green screen suits just wasn't my cup of tea, and I don't regret turning it down.

Elizabeth Day: Your second failure is your failure to be an action star, as you put it. Rosamund Pike: Oh my goodness, yeah. I mean, it started well with James Bond. But then, when I was making Pride & Prejudice, I got a call to be in the video game adaptation, Doom. I thought, "Yeah, I can do anything. I can certainly go and kill some zombies on Mars." Originally, Ray Winstone was the lead, but he was replaced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Suddenly, I’m in this film with The Rock, and I realized how utterly ill-equipped I was. The first day I met Dwayne, who couldn't be nicer, he was just a completely different beast from a 24-year-old me. He had this team of macho guys, weights on the set, and this intense, pre-take warmup routine that felt like an All Blacks Haka. I was just completely out of my depth. The film was an absolute bomb. It was a catastrophe. You do think, "Shit, is it because I wasn't hot enough?" I don't think I took that side of it seriously, or worked out for the gym body that a better female action star would have done

Why Christopher Nolan chose everyday American accents and Travis Scott over traditional cinema voices, and why he says the old way has absolutely no logic. Interviewer: I’m curious about the use of American accents. It felt like an intentional choice. Christopher Nolan: To me, I didn't want to look back to the Hollywood of the 50s and 60s where everyone spoke with an elevated Mid-Atlantic or British accent. There's no logic to that. We're trying to be what I find in the poem, which is earthy, grounded, accessible, and stunningly relevant. Academics talk about how Homer's story was passed down as oral formulaic poetry, but they'll talk about Yugoslav folk poets instead of looking at rap or a guy like Travis Scott. That's why I've got Travis in the movie. He got it immediately, this is how this story has been handed down, and we have that in our culture today.
