Christopher Nolan almost lost The Odyssey before it even finished filming. While flying into Scotland with the IMAX film cans, airport customs opened every single one of them. The same footage that took months to shoot across six countries… one bad light exposure away from being completely ruined. Nolan sat there and watched it happen. He later told Jimmy Fallon: “They opened up all the cans. It was a massive amount of film cans… and they did not actually expose it. We were able to rescue it.” When Fallon asked if he was sweating, Nolan just said: “Oh yeah. Big time.” One of the most ambitious films ever made… nearly destroyed by airport security. Christopher Nolan just admitted the one genre that terrifies him. After shooting The Odyssey across six countries on pure IMAX film, Jimmy asked if he’d ever want to do something “easy” next. “How about a Christopher Nolan rom-com?” Nolan didn’t even hesitate: “I think doing a rom-com would be incredibly difficult. I love watching those movies. But people who direct comedy… that’s one of the hardest things in the world. There’s no hiding if people don’t laugh. I would be terrified.” The man who made Inception, Interstellar and Oppenheimer is scared of making people laugh. Respect.
