Today the jungles of Kanha feel heavier, quieter, and unbearably empty. Mahavir, you were full of fire and grace, left us far too soon. I still see you in the last video I took of your powerful strides, those bright curious eyes, the way the sunlight danced on your stripes as if the forest itself was proud to carry you. You were life itself walking through the sal trees. Wild. Free. Perfect. I don’t know what is going so terribly wrong in Kanha right now, but losing you feels like a wound that the forest will carry for a long time. At the age of 6, you were just beginning your story Mahavir. You should have ruled these meadows and thickets for many more seasons, roaring under the same moon that now feels a little dimmer. I will never forget the day I saw you. That memory is now both my greatest joy and my deepest sorrow. We fight for these wild places because souls like yours deserve to walk in India’s jungles. Rest now, young king. May the winds of Kanha carry your spirit through the tall grass forever. You will be loved & will never be forgotten. Goodbye, Mahavir.
