We call on the authorities to intervene ASAP. Without saying a word, they immediately tied his hands behind his back with a rope. The young man kept asking, "What have I done? I'm neither a thief nor a criminal. Why are you treating me like this?" An elderly man had been watching the entire scene from a distance. He approached the officers and said, "I know this young man." The police asked, "How do you know him?" The elderly man replied, "I always see him standing or sitting in front of the Prophet's ﷺ Rawdah, sending salutations (salawat), offering salam, and weeping. Why have you arrested him? Is he a thief?" The young man was an Albanian, around 35 or 36 years old, with shoulder-length hair and a light beard. The police replied, "No, he is not a thief. He is from Albania and has been living in Madinah for six years without legal residency documents. We have tried many times to deport him back to Albania, but every time we arrest him, he somehow escapes. We always find him again in the Prophet's Mosque. This time, we had no choice but to tie him up immediately." The elderly man asked, "What will you do with him now?" They answered, "We will enforce the law. We are taking him to the airport and putting him on a plane back to Albania." The young man wept, realizing that this time he might truly have to leave the city of Madinah—the city filled with the memories of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. After a while, he pleaded with the officers: "Please understand. I do not steal, rob, deceive, or harm anyone. I came here only out of love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I have no worldly purpose." The officers replied, "That is not enough. According to the law, you must return to your country. Foreigners cannot remain here without legal permission." As they escorted him out of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, the young man made one final request. The officers allowed him. He looked toward the Green Dome and, overcome with emotion, cried out: هل هكذا كان الاتفاق بيننا؟! "O Messenger of Allah! Was this our agreement? I left my business, my family, and my parents so that I could become your neighbor, but now they will not let me stay." As he uttered these words, he collapsed to the ground. The officers initially thought he was pretending to faint so he could escape again. But when they lifted him up and poured water on his face, he did not respond. One officer exclaimed, "Perhaps he has suffered a stroke or a heart attack. Call an ambulance immediately!" An ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital. After examining him, the doctor said: "He passed away about an hour and a half ago." The officers broke down in tears, saying: "By Allah, while carrying out our duty, we never realized the depth of this man's love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." After he was washed, prayed over, and prepared for burial, he was taken to Jannat al-Baqi' and buried there. The young man who was supposed to depart for Albania instead departed for Jannat al-Baqi', leaving behind a moving example of love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A Bitter Reality We Must Confront This is a painful reality that many of us—especially Hausa Muslims—must be willing to discuss honestly. As Sheikh Lawan Abubakar Triumph (may Allah preserve and protect him) rightly pointed out, the culture of begging that has become associated with the Almajiri system is not an Islamic teaching. It is a social problem that has, unfortunately, become deeply entrenched in parts of Northern Nigeria. The Sheikh observed that even in countries poorer than Nigeria, such as Sudan, Benin Republic, and Ghana, it is not uncommon to find some of our own people begging on the streets. Able-bodied men, women, and even children have come to treat begging as a means of livelihood. This is contrary to the teachings of Islam, which honour work, dignity, and self-reliance. It is also important to reject the false claim that today’s begging culture is synonymous with the noble Islamic concept of Al-Muhajir (the emigrant for the sake of Allah). They are not the same. Using religion to justify or institutionalize street begging is both historically and religiously inaccurate. A painful sight in many of our cities is seeing elderly women, before sunrise, taking young children to street corners—not to earn an honest living, but to beg. In contrast, many other elderly women, majority of other ethnicities, leave their homes at the same hour to sell bread, fry akara, hawk vegetables, or engage in other lawful work. They are teaching their grandchildren that dignity comes through effort, not dependence on handouts. This is not about ethnicity. Every community has its strengths and its weaknesses. But where begging becomes normalized & even defended in the name of culture or religion, society must pause and ask hard questions. Islam encourages productive work, condemns habitual begging without genuine necessity, and commands Muslims to preserve their honour. We should therefore invest in genuine Qur’anic education, vocational skills, entrepreneurship, and social support for the truly needy—not perpetuate a system that traps generations in dependency. If we truly love our people, we must have the courage to acknowledge this problem and work together to solve it. Reforming the Almajiri system, abolishing street begging, protecting children, empowering families, and restoring the dignity of labour are responsibilities we all share. May Allah guide us to what is right, grant dignity to our people through lawful means, and protect our children from every path that leads to dependence and humiliation. Āmīn.

In as much as I always condemn the rate at which young Hausa boys flood some southern states doing menial jobs (of course due to the failure of the north and its leaders to provide them quality education), as Nigerians they have the right to live anywhere. According to some sources, an Igbo boy snatched the motorcycle of one Hausa Okada rider, and when they recovered the stolen motorcycle, they beat the thief to a pulp. Some said he died in the hospital. The Okada riders have complained that several of their members were killed along that Eleme Junction and their motorcycle stolen. So this time, they took laws into their hands. This is condemnable. It was after such altercations that some Igbos living in that area went in rampage, destroying properties of Hausa people & protesting that "Aboki Must Go". We call on the authorities to intervene ASAP. As always, I remind those that are quick to attack other tribes living in the midst that, your own tribesmen are also living in other areas, and nobody has the monopoly of the madness you're displaying. The law should take its cause and those criminals should be arrested from those that took laws in their hands to those that went on ramoag attacking innocent Hausa people doing their business in Port Harcourt.
