Most people who visit the Capitol never get to see what I’m about to show you. 👀🏛️ When the Capitol was built, Congress initially intended for George and Martha Washington to be buried in the center of the building. However, they never consulted George Washington about this plan, and he wanted to be buried at Mount Vernon. After the crypt was completed in 1826, the Washington family chose to honor George & Martha’s wishes, leaving them buried at Mt. Vernon.
