Today is 56th!! Madam took me out to lunch with Mishaya in Bwindi (frame 2 & 3). The celebration started with a Kiga dance at Buhoma Ride 4 A Woman lodge & a trek thru the forest from Kanungu to Gisoro. Thanks Nkwanzi Travel for always making my experiences memorable.

Kabushenga’s Thoughts A Life of Exercise Folks, this is for those of you whose parents are my generation or older. This morning along with my guys from the The Mutungo Madbus I did the 25km segment of the Kyambogo Ultra Run. After that I went to my spin class, for another challenge where we are doing 26 classes for the month of May. My guys in both communities keep asking why I am doing this to myself. They think I am overdoing it & punishing myself. The answer is simple. A life of exercise like the one I live, is a hack against chronic illness. It significantly reduces chances of this happening by a wide margin. If it occurs, a person in good physical shape has a better fighting chance of curing or at least obviating the worst effects. So what is my point? It is cheaper to do this than pay for medical treatment for chronic illness. So rather than dealing with the burden of fundraising for this & pain of nursing parents that are ill. If in fact you get your parents to switch to a life of exercise and change thier relationship with food, you will avoid this. I am not suggesting a crazy regime like mine. No. Just a daily walk, a cycling class, a nutrition approach that improves one’s metabolic health, good sleep, good content(reading books) & good company, will save you from stress of what I described earlier. The medical option should be complete last resort and you can do this. Share what I have posted with your folks. Have a lovely weekend

I’m off to the Kilimanjaro Marathon this Sunday! If I do it in 4.49.49 hours, I qualify for the biggest run of my life, the ComradesRace. This has acquired a new significance. My cousin Patrice aliakai who turned 50 last year, just took the bragging rights by doing all five peaks of Rwenzori on his first climb. So I must “do something which scares”! My kids need a comeback during family bragging time😆😆🤣🤣🤣. So I am leaving nothing to chance

Kabushenga’s Thoughts A Coffee Marketing Conundrum Folks: Kabushenga, have you seen the new Rwanda coffee campaign with Aston Villa FC? Me:(rushes to check on social media) Yes Folks: What do you think? Me: See below I have talked about this a lot in the last couple of weeks. I described in detail what has been done to position Uganda’s coffee in the world market. I return to it because of yet another significant step has been to take Ugandan coffee to the market. If in Brussels we put our best foot forward, in 2027 we are going to show off in Kampala. At Speke Resort on Tuesday July 14th evening everyone who is anyone in the Ugandan coffee sector turned up for the launch of the 23rd African Fine Coffees Conference & Exhibition and the 4th African Coffee Week organised by the Coffee Production Department of MAAIF 🇺🇬 and African Fine Coffees Association. It will happen between February 17-19th and bring over 1000 international coffee players. Proverbially, the mountain is coming to Mohamed. This is validation of Uganda as a coffee origin on a grand scale. Why is this important? Because it builds on the recent positioning of Uganda by MAAIF as a reliable origin of high quality coffees and consistently significant quantities. We are now the largest African exporter making US$2.5 bn in the process. MAAIF has published the geographical profiles of the different coffees produced in Uganda. This is compelling market information. And now as a sector, we also have a national brand identity. It is a mark of quality. The plan, as Hon. Desire Muhooza , Agriculture State Minister explained her speech at the launch, is to reimagine Robusta Coffee which originates from Kibaale National Park in Western Uganda. It is a forest crop as distinct from Arabica which is referred to as a garden crop. Over 80% of our coffee production and exports is robusta. Until now, it has disappeared in other people’s coffees as a blender to improve their taste because it is a premium variety. But it was deliberately undersold to make it cheap. It is why it has never found its own identity in the consumer market. That will change. At the conference we will be talking about fine robusta and how to position it to final consumers. There is another reason why I have faith in the plans. The Chairman of AFCA is Jeremy Mpalampa AKA Jeremy Mpalampa one of the finest Ugandan minds in international coffee markets who runs Kyagalanyi Coffee, a leading exporter. The organising committee is headed by Kenneth Barigye, the man who recently sold a microlot of his mountain.harvest Rwenzori Arabica Coffee for a whopping $350 per kilo. A combined effort of these guys and the MAAIF Coffee Production & Development Dept team, it will work. Let me just finish by saying that our next challenge as coffee people will be to meet demand. The market is now aware of what we have. I am sure you know that inline there are many ways to get attention. You don’t have to do what your neighbour does, just do it your own authentic way. The key is to act and finally there is action in the right direction. Take heart.

There was a panel discussion to update on child labour initiatives of International Trade Centre (ITC) & International Labour Organization in Uganda under the CLEAR project. James Muhangi of Rubanga Co-operative Society Ltd provided a powerful testimonial by articulating the business benefits and growth arising out of implementing the programme. Uganda has a good case study I then discovered that beyond the official booth set up by MAAIF 🇺🇬, a number of other Ugandan coffee businesses set up their own stalls and they were getting a lot of traffic. Douglas Jagira of Platinum, Teopista with her Women in Coffee Ug & the Agri Evolve team. Not to mention the illustrious Kenneth Barigye & mountain.harvest. Even the guys from the Rwenzori region. Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Uganda 🇺🇬 has been remarkably aggressive in driving the economic and commercial diplomacy l. I speak about the benefits in the video. The effective team of Amb. Richard Kabonero Amb. Arthur & Margaret Kafeero hard at work on this narrative. Brussels Embassy staff have moved offices to the expo to provide local support. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) David Kasura-Kyomukama & Dr. Gerald Kyalo Commissioner @CoffeeUganda & his assistant Gordon Katwirenabo stayed with us all thru today. The highlight was listening to Amb. Solomon Rutega who heads Inter African Coffee Organization selling a Chinese buyer in fluent mandarin on the attributes of our RugyeyoFarmLtd coffee. Being in the actual market does make you think of all sorts of possibilities

Today is 56th!! Madam took me out to lunch with Mishaya in Bwindi (frame 2 & 3). The celebration started with a Kiga dance at Buhoma Ride 4 A Woman lodge & a trek thru the forest from Kanungu to Gisoro. Thanks Nkwanzi Travel for always making my experiences memorable.

Our neighbors are doing all the right things to make their coffee work for their country & benefit their farmers. Here we are using coffee as an excuse to take money out of the national treasury for personal gain. A false promise that is simply a scam. We must take matters into our hands.
