Usually once a month I allow myself to work on something experimental and fun even though it's not important for the current stage of the project. Since I haven't had time for these "developer fun days" for a while, I decided that today would be one of these. Here's some experimental terrain stuff that I did today: - Parallax mapping / depth gradients - Parallax self shadows Pretty "old school" tech by modern standards but visually quite stable and relatively cheap for rendering.

Here's few furniture system improvements for the early access. 1. Snapping Mode You can now activate snapping mode, which automatically aligns the furniture to the wanted surface and slides along that. You can still use the default "free-float" mode but this snapping basically makes it much easier to find the valid surface and keep the furniture sliding along that. 2. Furniture Stacking You can now also place furniture on top of each other and making stacks with different furniture. The downside of this is obviously floating furniture if you remove the bottom one, but benefits from this outweigh the downsides.

Road to Vostok Final Demo (Next Fest Press Preview) is now available on Steam. If you have the "legacy" demo installed, you might wanna do a clean uninstall first and download the latest build after that. Good luck with your survival! ps. Tutorial is highly recommended :)

Here's a small preview of variable optics (LPVO's). There will be a few different types of these in the game and they will be extremely difficult to obtain. The main focus will be on fairly simple gear and weapons, since the goal is not to make a tactical "operator simulator".

Few new feature highlights from the upcoming early access: Event Calendar and Casette Player. Event calendar is basically world progression, where dynamic events start activating after certain amount of days have passed. Some events are fairly subtle while some have drastic impacts on the gameplay and difficulty. Casette player is a tool that can be used for listening item-based voice messages (lore related), real Finnish music and everything audio related. This is not for OST, but more like having small player-driven music moments while fishing and stuff like that :)

Few more feature highlights from the upcoming early access: Task Notes & World Map. Task Notes allows you to save task details from the traders. Since early access has +30 tasks, it seemed kind of necessary to have this tool, so you can check those details without the traders (once added to notes). World Map is a tool for checking out the accessible maps, zones and getting an overview of the game world. This tool has an item requirement, so you can only open the map view once compatible map item is equipped. Vostok area remains always unmapped, so you can only locate Area 05 maps with this tool. Visually the world view is also bit placeholder, but will probably do the job for now.

Here's some more new stuff called "Item States" and features such as: Item Freezing & Malfunctions. Item Freezing is linked to liquid-based items, so when playing the Winter seasonal mode, there's a random change over time that those items might freeze. When the item is frozen it cannot be used (like consumables) and needs to be melted / unfrozen by using heat sources from the game world or going inside the shelter. Also when looting in Winter, some items might spawn frozen state by default. Weapon malfunctions are connected to the item condition and less condition there is the malfunctions will occur more frequently. Once malfunction occurs that can be cleared by pressing reload which visually uses placeholder lowering thing until proper animations. Weapon condition degrades over time when firing and weapon condition can be restored by using weapon cleaning tools and repair kits. Weapons at zero condition will not fire at all.
