Take a look at this shot from Shane Lowry... Why did he choose to hit the higher shot vs playing a bump & run or even putt it... This is the difference between the ELITE & the recreational player The recreational golfer is likely putting this or hitting a bump & run with a 7 iron, or even a 4 iron... Now, while this option COULD get the ball close, it's by far the harder option in this scenario The recreational golfer will play the low shot because it's "SAFE". By safe, I mean less chance to hit it fat or blade it across the green For the elite golfer, height is always easier. They usually don't have any issue achieving good contact with their short shots around the green, so in this case, Shane is able to take out all the undulations around this green & just land the ball on the green & using some spin to slow the ball down The harder shot to get the ball close here would be a shot that is running on the ground. There's too much undulation & the ball could hit a ton of bumps along the way which will affect distance control Any shot is possible to hit here... But there's typically a shot where you can get it close more often than not. It's about identifying what that shot is & having the skills to play it

I came across this clip of Carlos Alcaraz doing this simple but effective drill to help with his ball toss when serving It immediately made me think about how these amazing players in ANY sport don't skip the basics I see it everyday with golf, the recreational golfer isn't willing to do the smallest, most basic things in order to help themselves acheive their goals They say they want one thing but their actions don't show they will achieve it Golfers always want to hit driver as hard as they can, they skip the importance of setting up to the ball correctly, they don't like changing their terrible grip because it "feels weird" Yet the best tennis player on the planet is working on his ball toss in order to ensure he can serve the ball to the best of his abilities It's these 1% efforts that can help you achieve exactly what you want. Don't skip them & when a coach asks you to do them, there's a reason we want you to listen and do them. They are important

Here’s my shitty swing 😭 Just a reminder to all of you who are trying to make a change at full speed, chances are you couldn’t exaggerate the movement enough if you tried! I’m literally trying to get my hands above my head… Not even close. My swing goes from flat, to a little less flat, but not upright Also, I don’t put in enough reps to change it. You have a much better chance at changing your swing than I do I coach all day, you lot practice 🙂😂

Keeping the ball low means the ball won’t have enough air time to go OOB which is on both sides of the 1st hole It’s a amazing that the best golfers on the planet still revert to a second serve when they NEED to get that thing in play Cool shot here 🐝

I’ve said this MANY times… Learn to hit your highest lofted club LOW… Here’s a fairly low/mid trajectory shot from 39y to a front flag… Why not use a “7 iron or 9 iron” and hit a bump and run? Because the ball speed would be too fast and there would be VERY LITTLE backspin to stop the ball A low 60deg wedge from 39y landing short, bouncing once, twice, then spinning is far easier to CONTROL your golf ball because you know exactly what it’s going to do Unbelievable shot here that most people wouldn’t look twice at. Amazing shot by Sam Burns

9 second Ludvig pre shot routine 🙂 That's not what I want this post to be about though... What I want you to be aware of is... He is THINKING about his swing while playing on the golf course, in a tournament You can see him make a little takeaway rehearsal just before he hits. To me, It looks as if he is working on keeping the club head more in front of the hands as he takes the club away Either that or he's making sure the face is staying square during the takeaway. Maybe both I hear golfers say that they shouldn't have swing thoughts on the course. I disagree. You can absolutely play with a swing though. You just can't play with 7 of them Ludvig proving swing thoughts are fine when playing 🙂

He's not excessively "shallow", he's not steep, he doesn't have an inside or outside takeaway, he just swings it so damn neutral I say this "jokingly", but Adam Scott may be partly responsible for golf instructors (like myself) when looking at swings we always look at base certain "positions" off this guy here Let's be honest, the bloke is a stud & swings it as good as anyone. Aging like a fine wine 👊

I see SO MANY golfers NOT doing this with the club face when hitting bunker shots... Do not be afraid to open that face at setup Obviously not every shot requires the face to be open as much as this, but 95% of the time, when I'm helping a golfer in the bunker, they need the face way more open at setup If you start with the face square, you do run the risk of digging the leading edge into the sand which could make it difficult to get the ball out with any height Open it up folks 👊

Walks behind the ball again to select his target & uses and intermediate target to help him (something a foot or so ahead of the ball) 3. Sets the club face first, feet second, couple of waggles and adjusting the feet to get comfortable 4. Always moving, never standing still long enough to freeze 5. Sends it! Copy this routine! Here’s Mr 100 in a row hitting driver (Adam Scott) I’ve added a few lines for you to see what’s going on - Red line on his left ear to show you that the head doesn’t go forward in the downswing - Lines on the hips to show sway in the backswing & lateral shift in the downswing There’s a very common trait of good ball strikers no matter what club they are using 1. Slight shift early into trail side 2. Re-centering phase from P3-P4 3. Lateral shift through the line that was on the lead side at address 4. The great Joe Mayo has been showing everyone that elite short gamers are twisting the face closed during short game shots, especially out of the bunkers While we have seen clear evidence that this is in fact happening, there's one thing I want you to all be aware of & I haven't seen it been shown yet Closing the face does NOT mean pointing the face left (for a right handed golfer) When you start with the face open, it is perfectly ok to close the face in the downswing, however, there's a right & a wrong way to do this Let me explain 👇
