It’s true a large number of “Democrats” are going to vote for Mike Rogers. But you can also expect there to be “Republicans” voting for Abdul El-Sayed. Both candidates are reaching across the aisle in the final days of their campaigns.

Southfield’s Hollywood tells me he already voted for Haley Stevens via mail in ballot. “Haley! Cause Obama said so.”

Detroit’s James Cotton tells me he just voted for Abdul El-Sayed at Northwest Activities Center because he’s “somebody different. We need changes…”

Rogers camp says they won’t do Fox 2 debate because Hasan Piker called Roop Raj “my GOAT” after El-Sayed’s primary debate w/ Haley Stevens. But Hasan Piker also praised Rick Albin after the WOODTV primary debate. “I love this guy, this guy’s my favorite moderator. What a GOAT.”

Rogers’ campaign has held a steady diet of events in Detroit, this gas card giveaway being the latest. There’s questions over whether Black voters, who mostly supported Haley Stevens in the primary, will turnout in the Nov. 3 general election for El-Sayed.

Haynes is critical of Arab owned businesses in Detroit: “I know some good Arabs, my issue is with (El-Sayed). He knows what his community has done. They own all the gas stations, now they’re buying soul food restaurants. Everything is in a Black, urban community.”

“What is it like to meet somebody you looked up to for forever? I’ve read everything he’s written twice, literally everything,” Abdul El-Sayed says on meeting Obama for the first time Saturday. “I was grateful that he put this campaign in the broad sweep of his own experience.”

Farmington school board member Angie Smith says she’s backing Stevens because she believes she will represent everyone, “not just one race… You have to know how to work the room, don’t just come in here speaking Arabic, don’t come out with your Arabic music on.”

El-Sayed supporter Duane Gholston says he didn’t realize he convinced his dad, Mike Britt, to vote for Abdul until he came across my interview with him from last week. “He’s a blue collar, blue dog Democrat who hasn’t been a superfan of the party in recent years…”

Stevens met with community leader Jai Singletary, who told her he already voted for Abdul El-Sayed. Singletary showed photos of the youth soccer team he coaches before telling Stevens lawmakers shouldn’t be supporting Israel’s military that has killed children in Palestine.

19-year-old Brandon Young from 6 Mile says he’s voting for Abdul El-Sayed because Haley Stevens is pro-Israel. “She’s too much of a corporate, Israel shill,” Young says.

“It takes a lot of courage to come out here to the hood and do this,” says Dennis Ester. “I really appreciate it.”

I asked U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens about her tweet accusing her opponent Abdul El-Sayed of “blaming all of his problems on Jewish Americans.” “He brought in Hasan Piker, this talented streamer, who has been very antisemitic,” Stevens says.

Democratic nominee for Michigan governor Jocelyn Benson hugs her son and husband after finishing the Detroit Free Press marathon Sunday in just over four hours. Benson, 48, says this is her 40th marathon. Her campaign launch video last year featured her running through Detroit.
